From what I have seen and read, I have always liked Luke Garrard. Thought his post match interview last night was spot on. Seems to know the game well.
All academic at the moment I know.
I rate Garrard as well. Boreham Wood are always a tough opposition because they're so well organised and tactically sound. I'm just not sure he has the qualities needed to mount a promotion push, however.

Agree Slack, clearly taleneted. But also not sure his 'solid' approach would go down well with sections of the Meadow Lane faithful.

Durham Pie I have spoken to a few Donny fans, they really rated him and said that he played further forward than he is with us and controlled the game.
I think he is far from match fit hence why he’s playing deeper.
Let’s play devils advocate and say Palmer got injured in the near future is Francis good enough especially against the better sides(don’t think LW thinks so)
When we go to Chesterfield and especially Wrexham away do you think LW might play Bostock and Palmer to control the midfield and try to take the sting out of them ?
I didn’t think Bostock played positive enough last night(although he was the only player that set on goal up) and he also showed Palmer’s weaknesses which are basically in the last 3rd of the pitch.
It was a gamble signing him especially after he hasn’t done a pre-season and not played for half a season but imagine in another month of match time what a difference he could make ?
I remember the doubters were on here at the start of the season about Baldwin and basically wrote him off as injury prone, old pals act etc but I for one think he’s been great for us.
Eli Sam was another that was wrote off very early and I think he was decent

Look, he's joined the club in good faith, has certainly tried his best so far, so doesn't deserve the opprobrium coming his way. We have to give him the chance to contribute.

It's not his fault we already have a midfield conundrum to solve - building a midfield around Palmer, who has one outstanding skill but is no great shakes attacking or defending. Replace Matty with JB, for rest or injury, and we still have exactly the same challenge! (A newly-confident Badger is the best answer we have, IMO)

Having survived a horrific car crash, I'm sure he can put things in perspective, but these negative rumblings are uncalled for. I think he's no more than Palmer's understudy for a promotion push, but let's keep in mind that he's done nothing wrong!

Totally agree, he’s playing basically his pre season games now, LW said it would take time. It’s whether you relate the 4 points dropped recently solely down to JB to say it’s cost us. I didn’t see the Oldham game but I would say 3 or 4 last night were well below par.

He may well turn out to be a decent player for us only time will tell. I would like nothing more than to be proved wrong. But like you have said and so have I he is not match fit, then why are we playing him in such important games that has cost us 4 points to date. And coincidentally we were very poor in both of those games.

It’s a bit of a Chicken and Egg if he doesn’t play he won’t get match fit and as said before a gamble by LW but it’s certainly not just because of JB that we have drawn 2 of the last 3 games.
Unfortunately it’s been down to a lot of players not quite at 100% and one or two mistakes made.
The worry for me is our training, tempo and playing style is very similar to Leeds in the Championship when they blew up a few years ago

Well they're all important now, didn’t see Oldham but I thought Chicks and Langstaff are poor of late and don’t relate that to JB, Ruben's not been great which maybe you could connect as they play closer together but I don’t see it. I think the fact is we have come to a point we just need a freshen up in a couple of signings. That said we won every game in December and incidentally JB came on at 3-3 Maidenhead and apparently played well and we won 4-3.

Bostock didn't do anything wrong. He was asked to play a deep role and link defence and midfield/attack, and he did that as well as could be expected, even assisting our only goal. He rarely lost the ball and looked comfortable in possession, as you'd expect.

The problem wasn't Bostock, it was the midfield dynamic as a whole. We were playing a defensively resolute, well-organised team that required something special to break down. So instead of playing Bostock and Palmer - two very similar players - we should have gone with Austin or JOB, i.e. someone more likely to get into pockets of space in the final third. LW even admitted in hindsight that JOB might have been a better choice to start in his post-match.

Ultimately, the Bostock-Palmer combo was an experiment in a very important match. It didn't pay off. But that wasn't the only reason we dropped three points. We were sloppy in defence and wasteful up front, too. We need to learn from all this and move on.
