When did you start Soulman? My old man was a telephone engineer out of Dudley when it was the GPO, he never moved over to BT staying on the post office engineering side.

This may shock you , but I have a wolves/ Albion scarf.
After working over 25 years working for BT in W'ton, installing then maintaining all the big Telephone systems, the likes of Goodyears ,Tarmac and New Cross etc.
I had lots of great work mates and customers.
It was the great place to work, never had any hassle,my Bt van had a Albion badge on the windscreen and I kept a Albion shirt for when I had to work at the wolves ground.
So when I left my mates got me a wolves/ Albion scarf.
Happy days.

Hi,I joined the GPO as an apprentice in B'ham 1970 and in 1979 left to go to Chubb Alarms , I was going to emigrate to Canada.
I was offered a job in Canada, but had go over there to finalised my contract then await a visa.
So in the end went to Chubb Alarms.
Then I had a great twist of fate, I was getting fed up of callouts and after one bad night, I went to bed a 7 am.
Then at 7-10 I got called out again , the rules was if you was out all night you got the morning off.
So off I went realy p//ssed off, to a tyre place just pasted Walsall manor hospital they are still trading.
Anyway I was working away above the roller shutter and I dropped my side cutters. I then heard a familiar voice, it was my old gaffa from the GPO, He said these are GPO cutters. We had a good chat and I told about the bad night of calls.
He said why don't you come back to the GPO, I said nobody can come back after they left he said leave it with me , I'll phone you tonight.
When he phoned he said I've got you an interview in W'ton tomorrow, I gave you a great reference, just turn up and the jobs yours.
2 weeks later I was back and hd a great 25 years.
With out that callout, my working life would have so been different.
Those scarves are an abomination.

I agree the one had was knocked up out an Albion and wolves scarf, my old gaffa got his wife to sew it up for my leaving do.
I remember the alarm calls, my old man used to get them from time to time at the GPO, the engineers used to be first out when an alarm went off! Remember having to sit in his van one night when my mom was out, ended up being a false call out, was pissed off as I think it was the SixMillion Dollar man on the telly!!
I absolutely love those events that happen in life. Almost like sliding doors type situation.
The immensity of life can turn on things that in there moments can be really annoying.
But when taken on the longer view, turn out to be the best thing that could have happened.
Thanks for that story Lloyd.
Scarf thought was a great gesture to finish...👍👍
One call out I had for BT was on Xmas day, We had just sat down for dinner and the phone rang.
There was a fire at a hospital in the switch room, so I had go out and sort a telephone system out I walked back in the the house on Boxing day afternoon.
I wanted to go up the match, but didn't think it was wise i was in the dog house.
When I left my workmates got me a Wolves shirt along with lots of booze. I still have the shirt, I never throw anything people have got me away, the booze has gone though.
They also gave me a framed photo of me standing outside the main doors at Molineux when I attended a first aid training day there. I knew they had taken the photo but I didn't expect it to be framed and presented to me on my day of leaving.
God bless em.
The last proper match I played in I was forced to wear a Wolves “Doritos” kit, I picked the ball up in midfield, advanced as the opposition backed off and then let fly from 30 yards and the ball flew into the roof of the net.
Last game, last goal and it had to be in a f e c k I n Wolves kit!
Played with my son, son in law and best mate that day and had photos taken after the match but non remain! 😏
Just wish we’d been playing in an Albion kit.
