Also grating how much he talks about fear, stress and clarity.
If the team doesn’t understand what he wants and isn’t clear how much more time does he need. He has been in the job for nearly a year now and this season has had two breaks - the Queen’s mourning period and the World Cup to spend time you wouldn’t normally get with squads.
Coached a lot of rugby and football and it seems like he is one of those coaches who can’t get into the weeds and detail of what he is looking for beyond saying be more aggrieved and tackle better.
His substitutions are often baffling (the most polite description I could find) which might suggest he sees the game in a way other top level coaches don’t - leaving on players who are clearly knackered and/or taking off players who are making an impact or randomly changing formation.
The subs last night seemed to stop out momentum a little and it just seemed like he thought throw a load of attacking players on create chaos and see what happened. Sadly the chaos ended up being to our pattern of okay. Wasn’t obvious how Joffy, Bambi and Rodders were supposed to play together.
Most obvious player to replace Aaronson was surely Perkins and Wober looked good at LB for the brief period he was there but he then brings Firpo on.
The more I think about chaos ball is not just on the pitch but in Ted’s head - chaotic, confused brain patterns.
There has been no progression in defending despite having a deeper squad with players he actually wants.
Adams looks to be at least as good as Phillips and possibly better. Sinisterra hasn’t had chance to show what he can do but is possibly as good as Rapha and Gnonto has the potential to be better.
Roca is an upgrade on last year as is Aaronson. Wober showing signs of being very good (and we have throw ins as an attacking weapon again with him).
Joffy has not had a crack of the whip under Marsh. Hjelde was spoken of as being the next Van Dyke and not sure he has okayed in the league under Marsch even though he has pace and can play at LB (he did a well a few times for Bielsa there).
Drameh must wonder what the deck he has done wrong when JM praises him in pressers but then never plays him in the league.
We need to get 3 or 4 wins out of the next 7/8 games and Ted shows no real sign of making us confident we can get more than 1 (being generous to him).
The Villa manager has won 4 out of his last 6 games we need someone who can give us that sort of bounce.
Orta and Radz need to say their good byes and let the next chapter be written with the new owners who should make a new coach priority #1.
Sorry for the rant but it’s so bloody annoying and obvious he isn’t the one.
