Where do you stand Man United?

It's the club that most of my generation grew up hating unless of course you were a supporter.

They won so much for so many years and had one of the best managers the world has ever seen, but they were also really unlikeable. A team you loved to hate.

The last decade has seen them struggle to compete with City, Chelsea and Liverpool but they are having a good go this season. Their fall from grace has made me notice other teams that I discovered a slight dislike for, especially the Scousers which was a team that I used to quite like.

Now that we are in direct competition with Man United, can you feel the rivalry (hate) of the 90's return within you, or where do you stand on that?

Actually, I dont think we are in direct competition with them (apart from the cup).
I think top-3 will be Arsenal, MC, MU.

As for hate - it is someway gone. But it isall up to the fans. Im sure - few trophies and good old manure plastic brigade will be back.

There’s also the Steve Bruce factor and their former player pundits are incredibly biased. The success went to the head of many of their supporters and staff and when the team wasn’t playing well they started to blame their owners (who have backed their managers, financially, very strongly).
The latest excuse I heard from one of them is that the owners borrowed money to buy the club, as if that makes any difference to on the field.
Football success is cyclical (the bin dippers and Chelsea are currently fine examples) and the feeling of divine right to success shown by many at that club is the reason I don’t like them.

That's a fair point of view if you look at pre-season expectations, but with they way things stand I'd say that Man Utd and Spurs are our main competitors. That's not me jumping the gun or expecting something unrealistic from our team, I genuinely believe we have the quality to finish in the Top 4 this particular season where Chelsea and Liverpool are far from their usual selves. I won't be gutted if it doesn't happen, but I'm hoping and thinking that it might just.

im not bothered about Man Utd, they get the rub of the green because of their success in the last 20 years.

Times are changing, theres a new club muscling in and its forced the privileged into drastic action.

That first goal they scored yesterday was a disgrace - Howard Webb in charge of refs and VAR ...... theres a shock

It's not so much the club/team that gets on my nerves but as you say TopToon those arrogant supporters and ex player pundits (exception Garry Neville) they all without exception think they have the divine right of success.

And yet I recall not so long ago during a home match where they were getting trounced, Manchester railway station was crammed of their "loyal supporters" queueing up to get the train back to Euston.

Yet I remember, what seems centuries ago when the great Matt Busby took over the club just after the war and began the rebuilding process, which put them where they are today, they were looked upon, as we were with KK's entertainers, as most supporters' second team.

In other words, the club, team and Busby were respected and reveered in those days. How times have changed and much to the attitude of the present hypocritical supporters they are detested by most.

History repeating itself with Liverpool under Shanks and Paisley. Those bygone days Liverpool were admired but as the present day supporters and some managers have turned out they have become despised.

I really think that it was Fergie who began the arrogance by referring to Ciiteh supporters, following the start of their build after the takeover as "those noisy neighbours down the road"

To my mind that was being a bit too smug.
