The irony of all this is that had nothing been said of what Lineker tweeted, far less people would know about it.
It’s pretty much reached everyone with the BBC and the likes reporting on it as they have.
I’d say Lineker has had the last laugh whether he keeps his job or not.

Isn’t the Apprentice produced for the BBC by another company, and not actually made by the BBC?

It's been a long-term aim of this Tory party to destabilise the BBC - mainly to coin favour with it's rival broadcasters like Sky (and by proxy News international-ownee sister companies like The Sun and The Times etc). Franky, they're doing a very thorough job of it.

For anyone who likes the idea of watching football highlights without a Sky subscription - or indeed of a news channel and national broadcaster not owned by a tycoon with ulterior motives - we just have to hope the BBC still has enough left in the tank after January 2025 to be able to rebuild. This 100 year-old British institution is truly on its knees right now.
Why is it ruining MoD? Not listening to waffle from overpaid presenters/pundits is a winner imo.

Did Lineker use the MOTD platform to broadcast his opinions? No? Why then should the BBC use their clout in an attempt to silence him?

I don't agree with him or the use of the words "Nazi Germany" to the treatment of "migrants" or "asylum seekers" when what they really are are illegal immigrants chancing it from countries with no political oppression. I may be wrong here but I believe the majority of the British public agree that this mass acceptance of just anybody floating across the channel (without passports showing where they came from of course), and then being put up in hotels is plainly unfair to an inreasing number of the population already struggling to keep warm and fed.

A few people in here seem happy at the lack of presenters/ punditry / personality on MOTD tonight. But I think nationally you must be in the minority (or just not realise what it will be like without).

Have you ever come across YouTube? The match highlights without 'waffle' are already available for free on there.

    Broadly agree with you there.

However, if you balance the financial implications of immigration against the amount of money members of this government siphoned off to themselves and their friends companies during Brexit and Covid over the last 5 years, immigration is not a 'big' financial problem for this country.

The (all very wealthy) members of this actual government must bear a much greater responsibility for it's people struggling to keep warm and fed. None of their loved ones will suffer.

What immigration is, is a traditional vote winner that a desperate government is hawking to try to win public confidence again. And obviously having Gary Lineker pointing some of this out is quite inconvenient for them if they wish to continue.

You beat me to it DSR. Makes me smile thinking that some football fans still wait till after the 10 o'clock news finishes to see the highlights and goals from the Premier League. That reminds me of the 1990s , my favourite football era.

I cannot remember when I watched any punditry program. Other than the ongoing stuff in things like Cricket that are done around play.

Generally tedious dribble peddled out by over paid b list celebs. So frankly who gives a monkey's what Gaz says. If it ends in punditry free programs that show more sport I am all for it.

It’s been found by ofcom to have ‘materially misled’ viewers over vaccines. Ridiculously you can have an anti-vaccine person on to spout their nonsense, but you do have to have someone on to ‘balance’ out that nonsense.

As I said earlier, some people want the Sun or the Daily Mail in broadcast form and and you’re clearly one of them. A channel owned by billionaires to further their interests. But tell me more about ‘balanced debate’.
