I’ll go with Kristofferson’s original which the Dead co-opted into their set in 1970 and is on the 71 “Skull and Roses” live album. That’s where I learned it from, and is the version that I will occasionally trill to warm up the thrapple in ensuring maximum accuracy of harmonies.
