Here's my understanding of the alleged issue

Following the brexit vote in 2016 Nicola announced in 2017 that an indyref2 campaign was being launched. The SNP then started an online fund raising exercise promising to spend every penny raised on independence campaigning. Between 2017 and 2021 they raised £667,000 but it then became apparent when they published their accounts that most of that money had been spent (obviously not on an indyref2 campaign given there has been no indyref2).

in July 2021 police received 7 complaints from SNP members that a fraud had taken place as the money was spent on items other than what it was raised for and they opened an investigation. I can only presume that this investigation turned up sufficient evidence that resulted in Mr Murrel's arrest yesterday. There is no information that I can see in the public domain that suggests whether the allegation is that the money was spent on general SNP business or spent on other items.

Separately Mr Murrell loaned the SNP in 2021 £100K to address a short term funding shortfall in respect of general SNP spend following the 2021 election. I seem to recall reading somewhere that some of that loan had been repaid subsequently but not all of it.

One might speculate that all of this seems like the symptom of a party spending beyond it's means

Seems shonky as fu ck by Dibble to me.
Obviously the Daily Mail types will be giving it "no smoke without fire" so this will end up a massive win for the Unionists.
Game over for Independence in my life time, hopefully Mason's faith in the youth of our country will prove well founded once I'm gone.

SNP looking like a grubby little weegie party.

Time for a new Independence leaning party.

People will vote for the party most likely to bring independence, if it's a coalition of many smaller parties then good.

    The more the merrier.

There's something fishy about this, it looks like a much bigger investigation than some jiggery pokery about missing money.

    Au contraire.
Factional in-fighting, senior honchos playing fast and loose with the law, Dibble feeling collars.......they look more and more like a mainstream Westminster mob, a party of government if you will.

The amount of Police present at their house yesterday couldn't have been much less than the entire force available for the whole of Scotland.

Clearly they were well instructed to make it look as bad as possible. Does a financial crime really need so much resource thrown at it? Easy answer is that if it was Tories, it wouldn't even have made the papers.

Our youth will see us through. Brought up without Westminster bias. They view Westminster in the same way as landlines, televisions, newspapers etc, etc. Just not part of their world.

No matter what political persuasion, being in power too long is a disaster for any party.

    Time for a change.

But, certainly not the Tories or the disgusting Labour Party.

So, break up the SNP, they must have lost at least half of their votes now anyway, get that independence coalition going.

The people that are going to see this over the line (eventually) aren’t going to vote for Alba in the same way they aren’t going to vote for Tory.

Rumour now has it that Sturgeon herself reported her husband to the police….watch this space (Hence she quickly removed herself from the premises moments before the police arrived).
