It will probably happen at some point but can't see it unless the percentage required for change of voting members in the EFL is scrapped or bigger incentives offered to those member clubs. Either way, we have to do everything we can to get out of this league this season because a 3 up 3 down won't happen any time soon regardless of the "open door" the NL are apparently pushing against.

A bit OT but I've just learned something about the 5th tier of English football this morning that I was never previously aware of and I'm quite shocked:-

From seasons 1983/84 to 1985/86 it was 2 points for a home win still but 3 points for an away win! Incredible.

Also, has anybody heard of the the team Manchester Central? They were given the green light to join the Football League in October 1931 (to replace Wigan Borough after they resigned) but Man United objected as they were struggling in tier 2 and for gates at the time and they got the backing of Man City to block Man. Central joining the 3rd tier North. Could have had huge implications on United's future success (and City's) having three Manchester league clubs that early on. We've got Salford City today but that's since City and United nave become established top 6 clubs..

If it still applied we would be two points ahead of Wrexham and they could only gain two tonight!

I would guess it was because they were under pressure to fall into line with the FL when automatic promotion/relegation was introduced for season 1986/87. Wouldn't have made any difference to Scarborough coming out on top that season though.

Would have helped us this season but generally it's very confusing (a lot more difficult trying to work out who can still catch who at the end of the season and for comparing records) and there's enough of a disadvantage as it is for isolated clubs such as Carlisle, Gateshead and Torquay who have few if any local derbys without them being further hobbled.
There's 8-10 clubs around the M25 in the 5th tier currently who can rely on support to help them get more away points locally. Doesn't always pan out that way of course, but a win is a win and I don't think the home-away distinction is fair. European competitions have just dropped the away goals rule so I don't see this old rule making a comeback anytime soon.
