A balanced, and for my money, spot on piece regarding Meslier and his current form;

V good, but on a serious note......
I think there are some selective memories at play. Wiki is reasonably accurate (and neutral!)
2020–21 season
On 23 July 2020, Meslier joined Leeds permanently following their promotion to the Premier League, for a reported £5m transfer fee,[23] signing a three-year contract.[24] Meslier made his 2020–21 Premier League debut in the first match of the season against Liverpool on 12 September 2020, starting in the 3–4 defeat at Anfield to the reigning champions.[25][26] On 28 September, Meslier was named man of the match in the Yorkshire derby 1–0 win over Sheffield United at Bramall Lane, after making a string of fine saves including a point blank reflex save at 0–0.[27]
On 23 February 2021, Meslier became the first goalkeeper under the age of 21 to record 11 clean sheets in a single Premier League season,[28] eventually finishing the season with 11.[29]
2021–22 season
On 13 August 2021, Meslier signed a new deal which extended his contract until 2026.[30]
2022–23 season
Meslier's performance against Liverpool on 29 October 2022, in which he made nine saves to give his side a 2–1 away win and take them out of the relegation zone, saw him awarded the Premier League Man of the Match award.[31][32] He made his 100th appearance for Leeds at Elland Road on 4 January 2023, in a 2–2 draw with West Ham.[33]
So by January last year, when he was 22, he had already made 100 appearances for LUFC, are there any younger gks who can claim to have done anything close? My point being that just as with some of our outfields players who HAVE been good, you don't suddenly get bad for no reason, and I think we all know the reasons for Mesliers lack of form (and it's not his ability)
And just bear in mind, the De Gea howlers on Thursday, and Ramsdales blunder, so mistakes are hardly restricted to "youngsters".
thinks hes a bit ****e personally.
Very very overrated. His 23 now not so young anymore but his making mistakes 19 year old would make. His awareness around his goal is awful at times. For his size his terrible at high balls. And his kicking well. That is a lot of goals let in over 2 years. Yes other attribute to that but he lets in some shockers.
I think he is excellent but is going though a torrid time and has played in a typically average/poor and constantly changing back 4.
The lack of depth due to injuries in the middle of the park puts the back 4 under more pressure too.
The lack of reliable goals generally up front must also put more pressure on the team too.
All of the weaknesses we speak of have been there for a while but starting to come home to roost.
The last 12 months hasn’t seem younger players progress probably because all the coaches left with Bielsa and Marsch seemed good at talking bollox and bigging himself up but the coaching and tactics side - not so much.
Been said so many times but look at the Brightons, Brentfords, Fulhams etc with a good coach and youth development set up.
Bielsa opened the door to progressing and the club weren’t smart enough to properly walk through (maybe they were too obsessed with other things to realise it was open)
"Not so young any more"......?

The most pertinent comment is this.....
"Only two teams – Wolves and Arsenal – changed their goalkeepers last summer, and only a further two – Chelsea and Aston Villa – did a year earlier.
And the ages of those four new goalkeepers? 29, 30, 25 and 20. It’s a quiet revolution"
So only four replacements, and the YOUNGEST was 29.
Meslier was instrumental in us getting promoted, and he has been our No.1 choice GK since the clown got banned. Still the youngest PL gk to achieve 100 appearances for their club.
Is he perfect? No. Would he be better if the club had invested in a back line that justified the description of "defence", you betcha.
He is 23, still the youngest PL gk by some margin, the last line of defence in a team that has shipped more goals than any other PL team this season, and yet he gest comments like "very very overrated" from you and "he's a bit sh1te" from that master of player assessment, BB.
Perhaps we should get Casilla back.![]()
