He was backed after he couldn't save us from relegation, lucky not to be sacked tbh. The club was on a high, heading to the top of L1, when he walked out for a club at the bottom & also had no money then. When you look back, that was the start of our downward spiral.
Somebody who says they aren't interested in the job, leaves a note under the door & goes up to the new club in his company car, in my books is what I called him. same for Bolton.
As we know & you say, it's all about opinions

Shame Pavis never trusted in his best managers. Warnock was furius when Rideout was sold - we dropped from mid table to near bottom after 14 matches without a win,

Fair enough, but Allardyce took Bolton to the Prem and was signing world class players. Pity Pavis didn't give him the same opportunity.

Bolton at the time were a league above us & didn't sign world class players straight away. Then look at the bigger picture, nearly went to the wall 3yrs ago due to over spending in the PL. Their debt was massive compared to what nearly sent us bust

I agree, it's not what you do, it's the way that you do it.

Pavis was looking to sell up at the time Sam left, to the former owner of Doncaster Rovers who'd dropped into non-league and almost went extinct during his spell at the helm. Sam would have been crazy to turn the Bolton job down and stick with Notts. He left us in a far better place than he found us, 20 places or so higher. Bolton and the FL were the villains of the piece for us not being compensated.
