Dames should IMO not be appointed til they look like hinge, bracket or both ie they should be of an age where they’ve delivered something. It demeans the status of those dames who got it on genuine merit in the past
Agree totally with your second sentence and I imagine what follows is you ‘just joshing’, but...in case it isn’t, I disagree.
It is perfectly possible for individuals to have ‘delivered something’ in their areas of expertise at a much earlier age than you suggest.
Many in the areas of science, medicine, industry and education etc might have thirty years experience by their early fifties so no need for them to be ancient.
Age and wisdom are not synonymous. What matters is that they’re actually appointed because of what they know...not who they know.

It is all very strange, I'm not repeating some of the allegations on here, but it does bear greater scrutiny and I do hope the media get to the bottom of it. really not sure how that got through the scrutiny committee though!
This decision defies belief and discredits the honours system absolutely

Seriously how many PMs would you want giving resignation honours from recent history ?

I'd say, and agree some may not agree, Thatcher, Major and Blair. Honourable mention for Brown too.

    None since.

    Rog! You’re back talking sense!
Totally agree...as does the honour that went to the poor unfortunate who has to cut his hair and apparently his wife’s dog walker!

Sorry rA I was exaggerating. Yes 30 years would be fine, this woman is only 29!

I was brought up under the stories of the knights of the round table, where honour/courage/bravery/servitude/ acts of splendour were the virtue of being one.

Now days you can be a Phil Green or Starmer where honour, trust or note worthy actions are distinctly lacking.
Like politics, the orders are tainted and soured by cads and nobodies.
    You scratch my back
Agree its an anachronistic outdated system of patronage that should die out with the HOL and the monarchy!!

HoL and Monarchy have no place in a meritocracy.
