I’m absolutely gobsmacked he’s dropped to that level. I actually thought he was back to decent form after his injury, he did have a bad one and for a long time played with it. For me he could definitely play L1, it’s hard to know if he’s been awfully unlucky with injuries or there’s an underlying issue causing them.

Notts have fairly decent sport science and medical teams and we couldn't keep him fit, I'd imagine Aberdeen have decent medical teams as well. Some players are just prone to injury based on their physical characteristics and how they play the game. Unfortunately, changing his game will probably extend his career but will it nullify his ability?

A bit like Michael Owen when he bulked up and lost some pace after repeated hamstring injuries, he wasn't the threat he once was but it allowed him to play more games for a few more years. Going to have to imagine Cal will have to do something similar

Rumour has it that Chesterfield were in for him but they wouldn't meet the £25k fee

if they only paid 25k for him , how much did we actually sell him for was it peanuts after all ?

Is that true?
He was out for a season with an abdominal issue (I think).
His last season for us he was tentatively eased back into the team. After Christmas he was back to his best form and was easily our best player for the run-in.
He rolled his ankle in the play off game with Grimsby but I don’t remember him picking up any injuries that season?

I suppose Aberdeen look at how their players stand up against Celtic and Rangers...that's a big step up from Spennymoor, Chorley and Gloucester. That move backfired for Cal - he ends up lower than he started. But good luck to him, hope he has a winning season, no reason why he can't.

I think he's only ended up lower than he was previously because of injury issues. You'd think if he's fully fit he'd walk into pretty much every team in the NL, let alone the NL North/South.

I feel a bit sorry for him with all those injuries though. If he can't get fit at Scunny it will likely be the end of his career, and then what? He has the potential to be a decent L1 player in my opinion, but it just hasn't happened.

In hindsight it looks that way.

Looks like Aberdeen have lost money on him and cut their losses. Definitely worth the gamble by Sunny could be a sensational signing.

Roberts had a standout season for us in 2021/22 which obviously got him his move to Aberdeen who he eventually made just 4 appearances for. Assuming he's passed a medical at Scunny they'll be hoping for a repeat of that for them next season.
