Why the Tonali deal makes more sense than Barella

    https://c.newsnow.co.uk/A/1185240177...atest_news#out

    Hi dee hi campers!

    what's cracking lads and lasses?

We're apparently launched a £43m bid for the 23 yr old No.6 from AC Milan. Milan are currently carrying £110m in debt and don't look likely to win anything anytime soon with Napoli looking like the modern day dominant force in Europe's 2nd most pointless of the 'Big 5' leagues.

Armed with our 'WarChest' (how much I despise the garbage spouted by the press to desperately cling on to relevance) of 50p & a Wham bar. NUFC leave no stone unturned in bidding for yet another 50million Euro + player.

We only have 75m to spend yet we're giving Leicester 'just the tip' for Maddison at around £45m, initial bid for Barella of £50m & we've got a soft offer of £50m in for Szoboszlai (never imagined I'd become fluent in spelling sz based Hungarian names in my life time!). All offers subject to flux and add-ons.

No doubt we'll end up spending close to £300m this window as we bring in the 4-6 world class players the club/team require to compete at the top top levels.

    Anyway... too my point.

    Player profiles.

Barella is a like for like with Bruno from what I've seen & can gather. World class, excellent at everything and walks into our midfield no doubt.

Tonali though has the ability to do the things Bruno does so well as a marauding 8 however he has the more specialist skill set of a Pirlo-esque, deep laying No.6 ball winning play maker.

This is what EH and most of the fans have been crying out for. To release Bruno and enable him to affect the game higher up the field.

Signing Tonali would bring into question the need to sign Maddison and potentially focus our financial clout on the Hungarian captain who offers a completely different profile to the rest of the current midfield.

I guess time will tell and the questions will be answered soon enough!

    Howay the Board!

i dont believe a word of it, just like the Barella transfer last week. I dont know anything at all about these 2 players as i have no interest in Italian football, from what i have heard, they are world class.

This instantly rings alarm bells, how will we buy established world class players at knockdown prices and flaunt it all over the media. The bigger clubs will just come in and blitz us out of the water with wages .

Our transfer business is done in quiet, we brought Dan Ashworth in and waited over a year to get him because he has a proven track record of finding top players at next to nothing prices,

    Mac Alister for 8m euro's
    Caicedo for 5m euro's
    cucurella for 18m euro's

so why would we spend massive money on players at Milan etc when we have this bloke running the show.

I dont even believe we are in for Maddison, he will take up 50% of our budget.

Dan Ashworth has been brought in to sign the next gen players. His remit will also be to identify the class of player like Bruno. His remit for Brighton was to identify players as you mentioned above. His job with Newcastle United is to sign player of Champions League quality.

Yankuba Minteh is an Ashworth signing, an eye on the future someone who will be in the squad in a season or two & a first team regular shortly after.

To maintain a top 4 presence and make a good account of ourselves in the Champions League the calibre of player Ashworth will be identifying will be the kind of player with development profile of a Bruno, Botman, Isak.

These players are not 8-15million Euro players. Not for NUFC. We aren't a footballing minnow like Brighton. Everyone knows who we are and what our financial muscle is. Which is why the thread is called 'Tonali makes more sense that Barella'. Tonali is not the finished article. He's still got a lot of developing to do, a high ceiling and plenty to grow into. At 23 he's fits that age profile we're looking at.

EH has been very clear regarding the profile of player we are looking at bringing in. Direct first team competitors to the current squad, not squad bulk.

I'm sure there will be some interested low key gems brought in however like the Isak deal the club will go out and sign 2-3 high ticket items. Whether that is a Tonali or a Barella remains to be seen however we're not gonna be bringing in a load of unknown, unheard of lads to join the squad for the biggest campaign in Newcastle United's history.

I have the utmost respect and trust in Ashworth's ability, the scouting network we are build and the boards ambition to get things right. However, it would be foolish to think we are just gonna chance it with a bunch of uncut gems when we have the financial reach to bring in assured quality which will grow, develop and secure the clubs position at consistent top 4 side.

Personal terms are always quite important, aren't they?

Tonali would be a good signing, I was more excited over Barella though.

Some Geordie has already updated his Wikipedia page

    Personal life

Sandro Tonali has claimed on multiple occasions that growing up as a young child, he was always fascinated with bridges, notably England’s Tyne Bridge, which he claims ‘stole his heart’. Tonali's favourite item on the Gregg's menu is a steak bake. In terms of Italian football, Tonali has been a Milan fan since childhood.

Isn’t it nice to have hope and confidence in a transfer window for a change rather than worry and despair?

It's just like a dream come true after almost a decade and a half in the doldrums looking at the transfer windows, time after time, in despair while other lesser clubs bought decent players and improved their positions relative to us.

It's a relief that that's just a bad dream in the past and I revel in the thought that Fatso won't be able to keep his eyes off what goes on at the Toon now knowing that all of this success was within his grasp had he not been stupid, selfish, and greedy.

Apperently Ashworth in Milan to tie up deal. Terms agreed with Tonali and it's just finally tieing up with Milan - looking around £55 million plus add ons.

Again, apperently Tonali likes the project idea of Toon and is pushing for deal himself - photos of his agent with the Milan head honcho to push through surfaced earlier and then was announced on SSN that Ashworth was in Milan.

However, as usually - till he's got the shirt on etc.
