I think you are conflating two issues here.
In the first instance the news presenter has committed no criminal offence (per the Met Police).
In the instance of Andrew taxpayers money has been used to pay off his accusers to avoid criminal investigation.
Let's be honest the Sun have royally (not pun intended) arsed up here and deserve the fall-out from this.
I for one, and I don't think I'm alone here, am sick and tired of the tabloid press being used as a tool for their non-dom owners to change the narrative in the UK for their own financial gain against the best interests of the UK as a whole. In this case trying to bring down the BBC so their own news outlets might be able to make them more advertising money. It's poor form at best.
The British public deserve way better than this. We are a decent bunch on the whole but if you believe the tabloids we are a bunch of rabid simpletons. The press should be there to hold the government to account not employ them (as in the case of GB 'news').

You are not alone, getting a balanced view of what's happening in the world is getting harder. Some even think you get it from a channel that choose to only employ presenters from the hard right wing of the Tory party! Every day I look at the newspaper headlines bit on the BBC. It's not a BBC opinion, just a pic of the front page of all the National newspapers. It's amazing how any single news item can get such wildly differing reporting. When Boris Johnson was found guilty of misleading parliament by the cross party Privileges Committee, most reported it that way. The Mail and Express however chose to lead with headlines claiming it was a witch hunt.
I don't trust any single news outlet, but I can easily discount a few.
It’s an old cliche but f00k the Sun and all who work for it, and especially the poisonous gargoyle who owns it. Hopefully this episode spells the end for it and him.
The Sun should be in no position to bring down the BBC. The BBC offers the UK soft power all around the world with our arts and language output and is respected worldwide (we have lost our hard power no thanks to the Sun and the Mail etc with their Brexit campaigns). The Sun does it's best to make this country look like a bunch of buck-toothed backward looking peasants (see Brexit). The fact it used to print pictures of 16 years olds tits and now tries to take the moral high-ground over some text messages from a news presenter is laughable in the extreme. If you buy it on face value then I have some magic beans to sell you.
The media should be holding law-makers to account in all countries, not this absolute toliet-roll served up by Murdoch.
The Sun should be in no position to bring down anyone. I can see why some think the BBC has a left wing bias, but in the Covid crisis they became nothing more than a government mouthpiece. The BBC behaved like a little lap dog. They did the daily briefings, but government ministers were given a very easy ride. The BBC allowed them to easily avoid answering difficult questions by bullsh!tting - how many times did we hear "Firstly, can I thank our wonderful / brilliant / incredible / sensational / fantastic NHS"? The BBC was pathetic, and couldn't have been more sycophantic. At least other mainstream channels like Channel 4 and ITV tried to hold them to account.
I can't disagree with this. The way the government were given carte blanche to set the agenda on the UK news during covid was scandalous, no matter what you believe about the severity of the epidemic. The people in power were certainly not being held to account at all in any meaningful way for a long while.
At the end of the day unless anything surfaces about goings on with under age persons, or anything non consensual then it should be a bit of a non story. It is quite amusing how on here it has turned into a right wing bashing session, seeing as all the media are now covering it, yes The Guardian included.
Of course they are. It's become a way bigger story now given nothing criminal has happened and the way this was reported in the first instance. This is holding those in power to account - the newsreader, despite what you might choose to believe had no real power. People that choose to print this tat despite the lack of decent evidence absolutely do. They have tried to bring a man down to suit their own agenda in toppling the BBC. It stinks badly. The Sun deserve all they get.
