I agree, we have been conditioned to believe that the old "Nepotism" ways are evil, its how it used to be here and still goes on make no mistake, especially in some professions. It is not always negative but can be if the unwritten rules are not followed properly.

I run my own Systems integration company. When I'm crewing up for bigger projects I use the same group of contractors I've worked with my whole career. Most of the older lads are the guys who taught me the trade as I was coming up. People I've worked with in the past or people those people recommend.

When working on a $10m + projects I can't afford to take risks, so working with people I've worked with previously and know really well is just makes sense.

Working with people who all work in the same manner as I do, everyone knows their roles and work together well the pressure we can focus on delivering the project and managing the client. Why take the rest on unknowns how have to integrate to the group, could be a negative influence and cause issues with the client.

Nepotism in the public sector is repulsive. In a private company the owner can do whatever he wants (it’s his own money after all). In a public company, likewise, the shareholders demand profitability and won’t much care if there’s nepotism or not in the company if they’re getting it.
It’s one of the many reasons that nationalised industries should be privatised.
