Luke's interview was as bang on as ever. We did actually start reasonably well. Unfortunately, a ridiculous concession from a corner - again - gave Lincoln the confidence to press us more and we went backwards into our shells, no doubt because confidence was already shaky. If we had scored first I think it would have been a very different game, but letting the first goal in brought back all the bad feelings from the weekend.
It was better than Saturday, we at least competed physically.
I'm not convinced we've got a starting eleven in that squad that can compete at L2 level. Unless Tipton is really good at 19 and can cope with being beaten up by some big strikers there's only Chicksen who has the pace, physicality and technical ability to comfortably slot into a L2 defence on what we've seen so far. Brindley looks shot it to me and has done for some time.
Langstaff and Scott have both been completely isolated so we don't look like scoring many at the other end.
I think we need to get the cheque book out and sign a centre half and a driving Neal Bishopesque midfielder because we look lightweight and an absolute pushover at the moment. I wouldn't want to have to go until January with what we have at present.
Grimsby are always tough to play against and will be a real test.
LW looked properly pissed off in his interview, surprisingly so for the second game into the season. We’ve looked poor so far, still early days though and it’ll be interesting to see what we’re like if we ever manage to finish a game with 11 men. There’s a proper chance we’ve well and truly cocked up our recruitment and retention during the summer though, don’t seem to have addressed any of the weaknesses from last season.
The corner for the first goal was also needlessly conceded (Sam Austin error, I think). I really hope the performance reflected a lack of interest in progressing, because it never feels good to be outclassed in a game.
This is an interesting thread on Twitter - about our lack of recruiting team now, which is something of a concern:

There is a lot to put right but there were some positives. The game, in the first half especially, was played at a fairly high tempo meaning our defence had a lot to cope with and by and large did that well against a good team from League 1. Slocombe and JOB played well. Young Tipton seemed OK for his short time on the pitch.
However, we discovered that playing Austin out wide left was a complete waste. When JJ came on he didn't create much out wide left either so that might be down to their right back. Scott didn't achieve anything - but that was because we had no creativity or service in midfield. Crowley had one or two nice touches but didn't really achieve anything - he is not in the same league as RR. Morias was invisible but only on a short time and suffered the same lack of service as Scott.
People talk about mixing it up with the long ball but almost everytime we did that we were just giving it away. In comparison we are a team of midgets. It just doesn't work.
TAR couldn't beat his man and his crosses for the most part were poor.
On the plus side again. For Saturday we will have Macca, McGoldrick, Nemane and Palmer to start against a League 2 team. That is some quartet and I am feeling fairly positive - especially if we can finish with 11 men.
