Barnsley Chronicle are claiming Barnsley have rejected a £2.5 million bid from Coventry for Liam Kitching. That's Kitching probably going then from the central defence at Wembley along with Andersen and loanee Bobby Thomas.

Replacements from Level 6. Ratcheting down.

    Money into club accounts.

Well done to the board for trying to push them to “undisclosed”…..

The Kitching story puts to bed all this idea of "rejoicing" when a player extends his contract as if it will mean the player is likely to stay for a considerable time after signing.

Kitching extended his contract in January 2023 to last until 2026 with another years option in favour of the club. As I said at the time it doesn't mean he is staying for the duration, what it means is the club are in a stronger negotiating position when bids come along.

The same applies to Connell and the rejoicing when he extended his contract. It's not about a desire to retain the best and gradually build a strong team. It's about maximising income.

The owners are reinforcing the mindset amongst fans that we must celebrate any income rather than building a team to achieve success on the field."New leadership", same way of operating.

In the meantime the level from which replacements arrive is quietly ratcheting down year by year, and the number of free agents increases year by year.

Jacob Brown move from Stoke to Luton confirmed.

I can also confirm that Barnsley FC may or may not have a sell-on agreement with Stoke which, if it exists, will comprise an unknown percentage of the profit difference between the undisclosed fee Stoke paid Barnsley and the undisclosed fee Luton paid Stoke. The phasing arrangements of any payment due to Barnsley is unknown.

    Doesn't this work both ways?
You can't build a team to achieve success on the field without tying your top players down with contract extensions. Which means you will be building a team to be successful. You would also be protecting your investment and maximising income, by controlling negotiations with length of contract and the deemed value of the player by the board/management, when a fee is proposed from would-be buyers.
Surely that's a win/win for the club. Either they have a successful team or they make money on sales.

What's pyssed most of us Fanta is how we've managed this model over the years or should I say mismanaged .

We are always going to sell our best players the same as 95% of clubs have to do , Brighton have just lost two of their star players from last season to Liverpool , Coventry were a penalty shootout away from promotion to the PL and have now lost Hamer and Gyorkes .

We don't seem to be able to sell them at the right time which would maximise the fee , we seem to also sell in batches which has decimated any progress on the field and in fact has sent us backwards .

We've come up twice from league one with teams more than capable of holding their own in the championship since this model was introduced and on both occasions we've sold too many players in one hit for too little money .

The recruitment to replace them then sent us backwards and in many instances the money received was wasted plus the financial impact of losing our championship status .

We wouldn't be where we are today if there was a scintilla of competence at the club and that includes Patrick Cryne .

This club is screaming out for a Director Of Football , someone who knows this game , can work with agents , has contacts and knows what the feck he's doing .

Some big egos on Grove Street who have nothing to have a big ego about when it comes to football competence .

    Correct Animal.

Ahmad, Parekh, JAQ and Jean Cryne are all out of their depth regarding knowing their way around the game compared to a significant number of other clubs.

At least we have removed from power the one with the biggest ego and least football knowledge in the Arseoyle Conway. It is a tragedy that JAQ and fellow members of the New York Investor Group gave him the power and failed to monitor him whilst others just stood and watched it all happen.

I know this has been raised before but Billy Sharp is still without a club and most likely still living in the area?
At league one level with us needing someone who knows how to score yes he's 37 but still looked fit last season when he came on, and Dallas and Shaw would learn massively from him.
Surely it's worth a punt as Norwood was?
