    Player ratings v Grimsby

    I'll go first:

Stone 6 - I'll have to see the highlights, but I thought he could have done better with their first. Other than that, his kicking was good, when he went long he went looong, aiming in the right area.
Brindley 7.5 - I've been concerned about his form and that didn't change until he went into the centre, but then he was a revelation. Barely put a foot wrong and it was great to see the old Brindley back (I don't mean Bill!).
Rawlinson 6 - Looked better on the right of a back three, did ok.
Cameron 6.5 - Better from the skipper, no silly mistakes and linked play well on the left.
Nemane 7 - Unfortunate with the back pass but had his marker beaten all game.
Palmer 7 - Does what he does, always available and barely wasted a pass.
Bostock 7.5 - Has that touch of class, linked play well and a good finish to get us level.
Crowley 8.5* - I was concerned he might be a bit lightweight, but he has real quality on the ball. Great to see him get the winner, he looks a really good signing.
Jones 8 - his goal might go down as an 'og', but if we get the ball to him quick enough he will deliver quality crosses or shots.
McGoldrick 6 - Some really good moments and some that didn't quite come off. I think he'll offer a bit more goal threat in future games than he did today.
Langstaff 6 - today wasn't his day, but the effort is there and when we put balls in the box he was in the right place.

O'Brien 7 - added a bit of energy and grit just when we needed it.
Austin 6 - Did his job, can be better.
Chicksen 7 - Unusual to see him on the right side, but negated their most threatening area.
Scott 6 - Worked hard and did well in what isn't his natural position.
TAR 6 - offered an outlet on the right when we went long.

Really enjoyable game, a proper footy match. We needed points on the board, so hopefully onwards and upwards.

I will go with that. A huge improvement on the previous 2 games. We are up and running...

I agree with all of them apart from Brindley, I was fuming after the goal and just double checked that should I be and the answer is yes, he had a good game but that defending was diabolical / negligent defending, well it wasn’t actually defending.

I’d agree with those. Felt sorry for Connell when Aaron’s poor pass went past him and he turned like the QE2 to try to catch up with Rose. I’m sure Stone will be disappointed to be beaten at his near post, but the biggest problem was Aaron’s careless pass.

Agree with Elites scores and comments. Thought Crowley was excellent today. Still think we need a commanding centre half as we look a bit frail defending set pieces in particular.

Good assessment(s), largely agree with these.

I would say they’re slightly underselling Nemane however, he was by far and away our biggest threat in the first 30 to the extent that their LB, uninjured and on a yellow, was subbed way before half time. Not sure if it was by accident or design but we then seemed to go more through Jones on the other side, but Nemane was outstanding first half.

Also think on seeing the goals again Stone isn’t at fault for either (I felt the same at the game). And Bostock’s was better than I first realised, outstanding technique.

The decision to switch Brindley and Rawlinson was a gamble but I think overall it was a good move and thought Brindley, in a position he’s probably never played, had the best game I’ve seen him play in a while.

    Stone 7; Rawlinson 6, Brindley 7, Cameron 6; Nemane 8, Palmer 7, Bostock 7.5, Jones 8.5*; Crowley 8, McGoldrick 6; Langstaff 6.

Really good assessments those. I thought the Brindley and Rawlinson swap worked well today. Agree about McGoldrick. The class is there to see and once he settles in a bit and gets to know his teamates, they and him will really be firing.

Good character shown to come from behind twice, take the lead and see the game out.

Totally agree on the point for their goal, he could have got across and stopped him lining up his shot for the near post but made absolutely no attempt to get near enough to challenge.

Maybe so, but we're talking about match ratings for the 105mins or so he was on the pitch, not a 5 second moment.

I'd give him a 7/10 as he was generally very good, probably one off for his part in the first the goal. And that is just a part...Nemane, Rawlo and Stone chipped in a bit for that one too.
