Corboran out......
Wallace had't trained all week due to a hamsting stain, He also had his appendix taken out 2 days in from breaking up for the holidays.
Zohore would have milked this for another 12mnths on the sick bed.
That is very true Soulman.
Like others, I agree with you. Also needed to give the two new players some game time. Yokuslu especially will be key for us in a tough season with an exceptionally thin squad so needs "protecting" a bit if the opportunity presents itself and can see this happening again if he judges it safe to do so (and it should have been pretty safe at 3-0)
The root problem is that we have so few players of quality in the preferred first team as it is, yet alone to bring on as subs. I'm sure Corberan himself will be far from happy with some performances. As he says, mistakes can happen as long as they are addressed but the one thing he will not tolerate is lack of effort.
To be fair to Corberan we were 3-0 up and should have seen the game out comfortably, none of us know what goes on during the week if the players that start are a 100% fit they get monitored every day, I didn't think Okay had a great game and did look tired.
I’m a firm believer in sticking with a side that gets you into a 3-0 lead. If it ‘ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Why make changes unless there is an injury. We completely lost our shape with the substitutions.
Did seem like Yokuslu was off the pace a bit but he will be a key player for us this season and Corberan knows this so will want to protect him where he can from injury and not over-play him. BTA apparently rolled an ankle which is why he didn't play and, again, despite us not having a straight replacement available, Corberan may not risk playing him against Leeds if he feels he hasn't sufficiently recovered.
Given the thinness of the squad it is understandable that he will want to avoid risking injuries where possible. Hopefully the two latest recruits will help but we are still very clearly in need of more new faces in order to beef up the squad and give him more options. Just don't hold out much hope that this will happen. In the meantime there are certainly key areas that need improvement, especially regards our defensive play and ball retention but judging from Corberan's post match comments he is clearly as aware of this as the fans are.
Totally get where you are coming from but at 3-0 up he obviously assumed that it was reasonably safe to make some changes, partly no doubt in order to try and rest Okay ( who didn't seem fully on form) and partly to give some game time to the two new recruits. Swansea had been pretty poor up until that point but whereas our own substitutions (especially replacing Yokuslu) worked against us, theirs helped rejuvenate them. Even so, surely Corberan should have expected them to perform far better than they did to protect the lead. Luckily, we got away with it.
