No I doubt it very much.
I used to be proud of our police for not having firearms. I now dread the day they get them, because its coming.
No, of course not...and I very much doubt they have such ‘free rein’ in the police force either. To an extent you only see the worst, most news worthy stuff.
Generally though, because the bar is being lowered by underfunding, less appropriate/suitable people are being attracted and that, imo, is the problem.

P.S. Come to think of it...your football team apart ...can you come up with anything at all that has improved over the last 6-10 years?

Solution: double the tax take from everyone to pay for to remedy all underfunding. It occurs to me that currently UK plc gets the central services it wants to pay for.

Problem: the prevailing attitude in this country is that we all want enhanced services as long as they are free to us - ie if someone else pays for them.

Outcome: resourcing slowly dissipates either through inflation or wastage. Expenditure is focussed on what is "trendy" rather than what is necessary and services start to fail.

Solution: see (1) above, lock and eliad

'Mobile' communications (basically everything that can be done on a smart phone) due to govt freeing up frequencies
TV and radio choice/quality, same reason
Goods deliveries to the home, due to govt deregulation (remember the days of 'please allow 21 days for delivery'?)
Early contact with NHS (through 111 for instance), I've found it excellent albeit the first responders sometimes tell you what you already know
Access to GPs and/or services that we used to expect from GPs, the evidence I've seen is that its about how well surgeries are organised, not funding especially.
Integration between GPs and hospitals, my experience is that (govt funded) initiatives have made that waaay better
NHS app. Brilliant where the professionals populate it promptly and properly
    Payment schemes for prescriptions
    Payment schemes for 'ladies' things'
Access to ombudsman schemes and sanctions for bodies who they judge to have failed
Public ransport (buses), on major routes. Cleaner, comfier, more reliable although that may be over a longer timeframe than 10 years
Air quality due to govt green initiatives
    etc

I will only answer that, so long as we commit to talking about how well NFFC have improved and become the pride of the midlands,

Lol...some fair points made (by AF) there but please, please, please don’t you dare, not even in jest, mention water and sanitation which has, in recent times, become nothing less than a national disgrace.

P.S. ‘Access to GP’s, Andrew. Really?

This is where a combination of partisanship and personal experience distort things. I can only offer my own experience - I’ll even name the surgery, it’s willington, and it’s bloody excellent in every way, I’ve never failed to get an appropriate appointment, with the same doc per issue and any number of subject matter experys. Bear in mind, it’s extremely effectively managed/administrated from what I can see, better than my previous practise

Pleased to hear it. Don’t think that’s a ‘universal’ experience though.

I'm sure it's not, in fact I know it's not because, with the same resources and opportunities my previous surgery did an 'OK' but certainly worse job. I've said it before (about hospitals actually), and I'm not actually defending or otherwise HMG here, there is a LOT of waste / bad organisation in the way healthcare is delivered and grasping that nettle would be a worthwhile HMG project
