Thread: Chelsea & FFP?

  1. #1

    Question Chelsea & FFP?

Almost sanctioned out of business by the Tories because of "Russian Involvement", (proper joke that was), yet have spent a billion quid on players in 18 months.

    How does this work?

Good question BT. They use every trick in the book to falsify the picture. Sales of players are an immediate impact on the P&L, whilst the cost of a player is spread over the length of the contract.

You buy for £80 million on an eight year contract. Cost in year 1 is £10 million. Sell a player for £30 million with one year left on the 6 year contract, the net sale is £25 million.

On paper the club has made a profit of £15 million on those two transactions.

They've signed so many players they're now having to offload a whole wedge of them, including Ian Maatsen.
