I was strolling around Wentworth this morning with my head spinning around players who arrived at our club in the later stages of their careers and did a great job for us & whilst I appreciate there will be contributors on here who were not born when I first started watching ,every generation will remember the type of player I mean & can contribute to this thread , so I will set the ball rolling with one or two from my younger days , I will start with Johnny Bethany , a small but combative midfielder who we signed from Huddersfield & then again a midfield come inside forward player who we signed from Burnley , Jimmy Robson , a class act who I wish we had been able to sign 10 years before & of course I must mention a striker & the first one that sprang to mind was Barry Thomas , a geordie lad who had been around the block but new where the net was . I could go on because thinking back there has been quite a few but I will put a temporary halt to my list & invite others to contribute with players who they think are of the same ilk .

From my time, 1988 onwards, I have to mention Neil Thompson, a key member of the 96/97 promotion side and not necessarily the obvious choice compared to the Middlesbrough duo up front who we signed. Thompson had tremendous energy up and down the touchline for his age. Top notch left foot too. Scored some absolute stonkers and was a bit of an unsung hero.
Andy Gray did a great job up front for a couple of years. Same with John Macken.
Geoff Thomas definitely deserves a mention at the grand old age of 36. He was great for us in the Dave Bassett season when we reached the championship play off final. Couldn't fault the guy.
Alan Clarke, without him with John Dennis and the players they brought in we might never have grown the way we did? He also played in his first 2 seasons with us till the age of 34.
Norman Hunter and Danny Wilson (as player manager).
Jason Scotland
Neil Shipperley
Wayne Biggins
Biggins came to Barnsley at the age of 31 in 1992 and rattled in 14 goals in 34 games in that season saving us from relegation and providing the platform for the Danny Wilson Premiership push. He was pivotal in our history.
What do Celtic know ? They thought Ronnie Glavin would never make it.
