The long standing pyramid structure of football in England where "the likes of" Carlisle, Northampton and Wimbledon could go to the top, even for a short time, has been destroyed by money, particularly the formation of the Premiership. The prize money (£100 million for finishing bottom) and parachute money make it increasingly harder for "outsiders" to stay long. I'm expecting spankings like the 0-8 to fall on Burnley and Luton soon.

In current financial circumstances we have found our level as a strong Third Division side and a weak Championship side. We would be struggling in the Championship now had we won at Wembley and be receiving the odd spanking ourselves.
You are right with what you say, we would have struggled in the championship with out a doubt however from a personal point of view I went to Ecclesfield grammar school in the sixties & as a fan of a team in the 4th division surrounded by a school full of supporters of clubs who were both in the top flight my life was a misery , bullying might be a stretch too far but I was constantly having the p ripped out of me & sometimes it was aggressive & eventually my dislike of the clubs especially Wednesday became hate , Utd fans were not too bad & over the years I have developed a fondness for them but the hate I developed with me for the Owls has stayed within & I always have a smile when things go wrong for them but to be honest my post was aimed at the current state of football within south yorks finest , its not good is it ? I hope the Blades & the Millers turn it around , not bothered about Donny at all but I take pleasure in Wednesdays current plight & long may that continue .
