The letter was a joke, if a stupid one. And yes, I’m sorry, but the UK was a better country under New Labour - for all its issues - than under any government since. Things worked, investment was made. Some of that had significant issues (PFI needed a lot more thought) and of course there was Iraq - albeit the Tories were even more enthusiastic about that than Labour was. And to come to the end of the term right after a global financial crisis made a change of leadership pretty inevitable.

Austerity and the inequality it brought with it strangled the life out of the UK. I have hope Starmer will be able to shift the conversation, eventually, but looking from the outside, England has never seemed so small.
