I love Baldwin, Cameron, Rawlo, Brinds, Chicks but that shouldn't stop you wanting to add to their ranks. This is what a great defensive depth chart would look like

    Right Centre Left

    New player Baldwin Cameron
    Brindley Rawlinson Chicksen

All would get game time and ideally that new player would be the pick of the bunch, and that'd be something given how much I like the defenders we have already
Ok so if I understand your diagram correctly you're saying you'd start to phase Brindley out of the first team from January.

But what about the debt of moral gratitude you owe him for getting promoted last year? Does that make you fickle? Or a bad fan? Or a footballing dinosaur?

Look I'm not getting on your case, I know you're trying to be positive, but to be honest I don't think we see half as many of the critical posts on here now as people make out.

Even DurhamPie (who annoyed me with his low effort 'crap player should be sold' posts every time someone had a bad game) seems to have reformed his ways.

Sometimes players don't play well, and posters call it as they see it. That happened on Saturday with a couple of defenders, one in particular, and I don't see anything wrong with that as long is it's not OTT and they give the same players credit when they have a good game.

And for the record, the said player is not getting criticsm for the way we play but for certain individual characteristics that are also visible in a back 4 or back 5 alongside Chicksen. Or things like falling over to buy fouls and turning over possession - which none of the other centre halves do, despite playing in the same system.

Due to be overseas was unable to watch the game through the usual channels but by all accounts sounds like my day at the beach was a far better option after such a disappointing display. Dodged a bullet there.

Always good to hear Luke after the game, his interview approach is obvious over praise the opponents especially when we win, heavily criticise his own team when required.

I'm happy that his expectations are clearly higher than mine, which is important and as it should be with him being the boss. Plus he's only cared about Notts for less than 1.5 seasons compared to my 36.5 so it's understandable.

I guess Tipton still isn't up to speed or is he just not good enough?? I'd expect him to play a part against Derby. If not is he just here to make up the numbers on the bench? We need another option at the back for sure.

There's a lot there to take issue with

You're hardly comparing like with like. I post very positive stuff about RB, make him MoM and yes of course there's gratitude and recognition of his achievements, he's one of the 'made men' as far as I'm concerned. We probably wouldn't understand ourselves, but pro football is an incredibly competitive, cut throat world. As we go on this upwards journey, we know that not everyone is going to make it, Vinny and Ed Francis for example. Let's hope all of our current squad can, but all clubs try to improve their squads. Then it's down to competition for places. Ideally fans will be sensitive and remain appreciative as this process plays out.

On the other hand we have relentless negative posting at every available opportunity. We've seen stuff like 'error prone idiot' on here, so it's even edged into mild abuse. We have testimony that this kind of negativity has seeped into the stands as well...all the makings of a scapegoating campaign for record-breaking, promotion-winning, league-status-regaining, top-of the table-sitting players. Elite thinks it's caring, I said unhinged. Well both things can be true

Certain sections of the fanbase have developed certain associations. Instead of the things I just mentioned, plus NL team-of-the year, buccaneering forward play, being masterful on the ball, these fans just seem to associate and think 'mistake!!!' They could see 5 really positive pieces of play followed by a mistake and that last play would be all they want to talk about. This kind of atmosphere will actually contribute towards more mistakes!

Two final points, I'm not going to join in backing the opposition with the fouls they concede against our players who are confident enough to want to shield the ball. If they insist on ploughing into our player's back, and are not skillful enough to nick the ball away without fouling, or canny enough to just jockey and force a decision, then they deserve to be whistled for fouls every time.

If anyone's got ifollow they can replay the game if they wish. So if you think a player like KC had a bad game, watch him from start to finish, see all the good stuff too and you'll probably see a performance that's pretty much in line with gaining an away point at a top ten team in a 1-1 draw. And just maybe most of the noise is down to posters who made up their minds before a ball was kicked.
