That's because we are a top team. 25% of the season in and we are top of the league. I don't think we will finish top but I think minimum playoffs. Thing is performances set expectations and that's why people moan about the defence. the season we went down all we wanted was to compete. And for the most part we couldn't. Now both management and fans demand excellence in every area. How times have changed! The past 20 odd years for the most part has been turgid and terrible other than brief fake Munto excitement and a brief moment of hope with Hardy. Notts fans should be very proud of the management owners and team we have right now. We are back on the map and getting better and better.

Long and bitter experience of life has taught me to listen carefully to the pessimists even when what they're saying sounds patently insane.

Not because they're always right, but because whatever black swan event comes to screw you up... they almost invariably warned of it beforehand.

I also like listening to optimists though. If you ignore them you miss all kinds of opportunities they identify.

I come here to read people's opinions on football whether I agree with them or not, and I appreciate every post in the spirit with which it was written. Which is usually an honest personal opinion at the very least.

I think we should absolutely be thankful for where we are as a club and hoping we strengthen the squad where needed as soon as possible. These aren't by any means mutually exclusive viewpoints.

I concur with a lot of anticlough's views, an outsider viewing the match day thread would not expect us to be top or even near the top. It's far easier to moan, and let's be honest if you are negative then as a fan of a traditional struggling lower league club you are going to be right more often than not. Although this season and last its been a very tough task, thankfully.

If you are looking for more fair criticism then a club specific message board is not the place to look, I find the criticism on more general league based forums (some excellent ones out there) far more accurate and fair from fans of all clubs. Less extreme.

    That would be my suggestion.

Some very good points made. I can't say for sure it is because they care more as that's impossible to judge but they are definitely more emotive and certainly more reactionary to perfomances and match results and are quick to comment during and straight after a game. Nothing wrong with knee jerk reactions that's what radio 5's 606 is all about. It's what football message boards are all about they have just replaced the footy chat post game in the pub. 606 want the emotionally charged to celebrate or more likely moan about their club, player, manager.

Also agree that there is a common trend from some who's comments show a clear uncomfortableness of how we play the game, let's be honest we aren't renowned in our history for flowing patient passing intricate football. These more historic views of football and the way we play often come across as negative moaning comments when it's really just outdated. I can't see them ever changing as too set in their ways.

We fans should criticise when things are good enough , even when the opportunity has been so very limited under Williams, I try to adopt a stand back and look approach and the league table, the home attendances table, the top scorers table etc are easy and convenient barometers and I try to keep them in mind after watching the game.

Think thats absolutely right- our gr8 performances over the last 12 months have set our expectations really high, we are no longer satisfied getting a point away at a top 10 team in a division we have just been promoted to- long may it continue
As a Notts supporter i have not seen Notts in the top 2 tiers for nearly 30 years, under our current owners , set up, clear vision for the futues, and attracting good players and managers- perhaps the dream of seeing Notts in the top 2 divisions could be fufilled once again - in the meduim term there is no reason this can not become reality

I kind of agree with Sids OP although feel that comments can be made in the heat of the moment. Taking those out then I don't think there'll be a Notts fan who in their hearts isn't head over heels with our start to life back in the EFL. I for one am continually amazed at this team and management who are exceeding my expectations every week. What a time to be a Notts fan after all these years of crap. Not only crap but no direction, drifting from one manager to the next or even one owner to the next with the trajectory (baring blips) down to non league. Absolutely fantastic feeling at the club. Well done all at the club and the supporters who make up a big part of this.

We are indeed experiencing a great time to be a Notts fan. If someone had told me a couple of years ago I’d be going up to Barrow for an away game in October or we’d be virtually selling out against Mansfield I’d have said they were mental.

That doesn’t mean we can’t criticise individual team or player performances, like the last 70 minutes against Barrow.

We still have a few improvements to make but we are getting there.

Better start than expected but we will know how good we when we have played all teams at least once, some tough games to come starting on Saturday.

Not a single Notts fan wants us to fail.

This board would be a boring place if we all agreed and everything was perfect.

The defence is the only area we have not improved from last season, and despite the “it’s the way we play” comments, some of the defending has been very poor indeed (forest green)

Having ball players in the side and playing the way we do does not take away the basics of defending, like not falling over embarrassingly to try and get a free kick, or blocking crosses or players being closed down on the edge of the area.

Fact is, the defence needs improving. Anyone who knows anything about football can see that, surely? LW certainly can (TAR for Nemane for example), and he clearly is trying to do something about it

We should always be wanting to improve. In 2009 we had a team which was defensively poor, but saved by attacking intent, when promoted it was found out in the opening game. Sound familiar?

I think most people agree, it’s pretty obvious……but they won the league last year so shouldn’t be criticised 😂🤦*♂️
