But you misread there. It wasn't a history. It was an answer to the claim that the defenders aren't tasked with more responsibility than in more conventional teams. They are. When play breaks down, most certainly 2 or 3 defenders have to defend the width of the pitch until others get back. It was also an explanation why some fans might not recognise or like that - it's a big departure from the football served up over the decades.

A team that has such an attack-minded approach will have some in-built defensive vulnerabilities. It's always a trade-off, but for us a very successful one - in terms of results, promotion, attendances, revenue and image etc.

Nooooooooo - but it shouldn't surprise me that I've been exchanging emails based on a complete misreading of my 'whole point'

'above criticism' is not a position anybody could ever reach.

Fans, posters, want to criticise, they will - their right to if they want.

But if other posters see that criticism as unfair, imbalanced or wrong, the right applies there as well to put that case - a typical messageboard exchange.

Well, I think you'd struggle to find examples of LW criticising individual players' performances, or even criticism of just a unit of the team. In fact, in some of his more critical interviews, he's said that the problem with poor play hasn't been at the back where play might have broken down, but in the options ahead. Or actions ahead that led to the defence being put under pressure when it was avoidable

That's pretty much the limit of what's been put out there publicly. In-house criticism will rightly remain a complete mystery to fans.
I'm sorry I don't think I misread your position. I have just re-read your posts since the final whistle at Barrow and I think I represented your position quite accurately, but they are there for everyone to see if I didn't.

They are glaring and obvious defensive failings. I'm certain LW sees it that way and will rightly keep his comments in the dressing room.

We do not have to nor should we. This a messageboard for opinion. Its piss poor defending at times.
Well thanks for proving all my points BJPie about unnecessary negative posts about defenders.

You choose to focus on that instead of all the positive things these players have done to get us back in the EFL and into 1st place in L2.

I think I saw a striker miss good chances recently. Is that any interest to you? It isn't to me, but since you like to pick up on shortcomings...

We've had the one of best season + 12 games in the club's history but for you it's still about a back pass from 12 games ago and a few adverse defensive situations. Your problem, but other posters will continue to try to make a fairer and more balanced case.

I do wonder what you and others would want....a) LW to abandon the current system, change to a back 4 and make more defensive selections or b) replace players ....or both

I must say the_anticlough provides consistently great analysis, opinion and provides a very compelling argument. I totally concur with his comments regarding more responsibility and increased exposure for the defence in the system under Williams. That seems quiet clear to me.

Oh and with our current head coach and current system you would be crazy to take Kelly Evans over Nemane or any of our other options for the wind back position. The reasons are pretty obvious if you've seen him play for Notts. Hopefully he gets a new club in the National League soon.

I could, as I have in the past explain how I understand the system exposes the defence to some degree but its the poor decision making and individual errors that must stop.
However, it's painfully obvious that you only want to hear your own voice and any other view holds no value to you, particularly if it offers any criticism, no matter how justified. I find your overbearing dogmatic approach to other people's opinions quite odious.
In general I enjoy the differences of opinion NCM embodies and understand that we all have different preferences and expectations.
You seem incapable of accepting that, for which I do feel genuinely sorry for you.
There is no point in reading anything you post in future as you are not open to any response that doesn't affirm your view.

With that response, it's clear that the person who cannot tolerate an opinion different to your own is you.

I will continue to read your posts even if you won't mine.

As a neutral between the two of you Anticlough makes some very good points about the type of football/system we play exposing the defence more but also agree with BJ that we have to try to minimise the gifts/mistakes that the defenders(mainly) make although these mistakes happen in the Premier League every week so very difficult to eradicate.
I think LW will keep working with these players to improve them and their confidence which he has done considerably already and hopefully find a tall, hard tackling, mobile centre back that can play in January to challenge the defenders we have(although that would be easier if we were in the Championship)

I'd agree, he thought Kelly-Evans should be in our side now too instead of Nemane.
He might have been able to spell but he didn't know his football

    Fair comments and suggestions.

A player in our back 3 can spend all game starting attacks, distributing the ball well, doing sound defensive work generally, maybe throw in a last-ditch challenge, crucial blocks, even one off the line, and some would still choose to overlook all those positive things, giving preference to jumping upon a mistake. Who doesn't want to eliminate mistakes? The coach, the player, all the fans - everyone does.

Isn't it better if we look at performances in their entirety? And if we are going to seize upon mistakes, then we'd have to look at midfielders getting dispossessed or misplacing passes and forward players missing sitters. You could say they cost goals too. But it's better as supporters that we don't go too far down that road
