Ideal really, a comfortable win despite the absentees and the last 35 mins was just an exercise in resting legs and getting fringe players minutes.

Thought Newport were desperately poor. Reminded me a bit of the sort of game we had last season against lower NL sides where we could win very comfortably without needing to be anywhere near our sharpest.

A great 4 days for the club. 6pt boost. Scalps of Gills and Newport. Up to 30pts already

Table looking like NL season 2021/22. Stockport have had this kind of winning run win each of the last 3 season's now. This time it's come earlier though. Ominous, but there are 4 promotion places to go for.

    Good summary, all positives tonight.

Another 20 points from 31 games and we'll be safe from relegation!

Good match overall. We did the job asked of us. JJ was superb first half and Mecca was close to a hat trick.
Felt sorry that Junior M didn’t score tonight as he has all the makings of being a fan favourite as he put in 110% effort.
I agree with previous comments regards Baldwin. Sublime in moments, but the daft lapses of concentration let him down. Again. Far more good than bad for him though. Macari looks solid and should be a regular now imo.
Good to get some of the younger lads on. Biggest weakness for the squad is still lack of height and bulk. That and a decent cover for the middle two. Austin did better than last time, but against better opponents, he would have been overran. And JoB did his usual flashes and errors. Sad to say, but think he’s near the end of the line now and we need to replace him come January with a capable midfielder who can pull strings and passes.
Newport were rubbish. Thought Bogle looked good as usual. One of those players I always wished we signed when he was on the top of his game when he was at Grimsby. Still looks the part.

Good performance I thought, and a clean sheet to cap it off. There was a 10-minute-ish spell in the second half when we seemed to stop playing for no apparent reason and gave Newport a sniff, but otherwise I thought we were well in control.

I liked what I saw of Macari, who seemed more positive and creative in possession than 'backpass' Brindley, and although Junior Morias needs to be more composed with his finishing, I thought he looked a very good, hard-working team player with a good first touch, decent vision and the ability to turn and wriggle away from opponents. Playing alongside Langstaff I thought he did a good job, looking a more than capable understudy to McGoldrick.

Slocombe seems to have returned to the team determined to re-establish himself as number one and show that he can distribute the ball well enough, and if he carries on like tonight I can't see Aidan Stone getting the jersey back anytime soon. Experience is important in that position and Sam certainly doesn't lack that.

Personally I would like Luke Williams to leave things a bit longer before making multiple substitutions, and to spread them out a bit more, because I do think making so many subs in one go, especially when moving players into unusual positions, disrupts the flow of a team that's so heavily based on cohesion and patterns of play. Nemane I thought looked like a fish out of water playing more centrally, but that's a minor gripe. Overall, you can't fault anyone on the Notts side on tonight's outcome.

Agree with this. We could/should have scored five or six as we missed some glaring chances, but we were our usual careless selves at the back for 5-minute spells in each half where we just seem to totally lose our concentration levels and surrender the ball in bad positions.

Was that a hat trick of assists for JJ tonight? He was on another level to everyone else - I don’t think I’ve ever seen a more broken player than the Newport right back when he was finally subbed, after seeing Jones go past him time and time again. Some of those body swerves were outrageous.

Junior Morias definitely put a shift in, but I think he’d prefer to be playing the Macca role than the McGoldrick one. I don’t think dropping deep and bringing others into the game or running toward goal from deep is his natural game, but I’m delighted he’s finally made his full debut for us.

Macari had a really good game, I thought, and also looked very comfortable when he was switched to the left. Baldwin is a curio, though - spends 90% of the game looking like John Stones and the other 10% like Norman Wisdom. We seem to say it every game, but if he could just cut out the sloppy mistakes he’d be one hell of a defender.

Funny that, I thought the opposite. Junior to me looks precisely like a supporting striker rather than someone you would rely on as your 'main man' for goals. I thought he complemented Macauley really well in Didzy's absence, hence why Langstaff had a good game. Junior's work rate is excellent and I thought he actually did well dropping deeper, picking up the ball and running at players. He looks to me like one of those players who doesn't necessarily stand out individually, but who makes those around him really tick. I liked what I saw and the way he was deployed.

Macca had an 8/10 game, but was still behind Jones for MOM. He looked like a Premier League player dropped into a League 2 game and their full back must have been relieved when he was subbed. Macari looks likely to feature from now on and it was good to see Tipton get a few minutes.

Hope the injury to Josh Seberry isn't as bad as it seemed at the time.
