    O/T Cruising (on a ship)

Are these the best holidays? Discovered cruising a few years ago and now wouldn't do a beach holiday ever again. My next one is March 2024. Anybody else sailing?

I am a regular cruiser. My kids prefer it as a holiday over beach holidays. We usually do the Med but I have done Caribbean cruises.

This year I managed to finally convince my wife to undertake a cruise. She was very sceptic after an awful sailing to The Shetlands a few years back which had put her off ships. We booked the Caribbean in January which I hoped would be reasonably smooth to get her confidence back. She enjoyed it so much that when we got back we booked another one to the Adriatic in June. She has now got the bug so hopefully there will be many more cruises for us. I will avoid subjecting her to crossing the Bay of Biscay so we will probably only do fly cruises for the foreseeable future.

“She who must be obeyed” and I have done 3. (P and O - originally Princess Cruises) The Med, Caribbean and the best by far…the Inside Passage…Vancouver to Alaska (Anchorage) - As an aside our trip coincided with the sad death of Princess Diane
The added attraction of the Inside Passage cruise, above the others, is that a lot of the time at sea provides a scenic view of snow topped mountains. (As opposed to views of the sea - horizon)

Done a few, simply the best as the late Tina Turner would say. Can be a little pricy but well worth it. Waking up somewhere different each time and experiencing different cultures etc. And if you absolutely love somewhere, just go there on a holiday. Great fun. Unfortunately since Covid, I can’t convince my good half to do it anymore. (That is crushing on ships if there was any doubt). 😎

The closest I have come to a cruise was on a boat sailing from Venice to Haifa. It was already packed down below when I got on and I had to sleep on deck. It was warm and comfortable and quite an experience especially when we went through the Greek islands

We've done a few cruises and they have given us some great experiences. Sailing into Venice, Stockholm archipelago at dawn, St Petersburg. Not great lovers of being onboard but it is a means to an end of seeing lots of places in a short time can't be beat.

River cruise down the Danube was good.
