I’m sorry mac...I feel a little like I can’t do right for doing wrong. I’ve ignored the jibes for a couple of weeks and I’m actually more than happy not to converse with Swale at all...but when someone ‘attacks’ you by deliberately misconstruing words like ‘rookie’ and ‘amateur’ as being insulting to someone I have actually displayed great respect for and accuses me of making ‘sly digs’, then I felt an explanation to be necessary.

If anyone else reads this thread and feels I’ve been disrespectful to Mr. Clowes then I’m obviously in the wrong and I’ll apologise, but what I said in the third post of this thread and in conversation with you in post #15 certainly wasn’t intended to be in any way disrespectful and I doubt anyone else will have seen it that way.

To be clear...I have the greatest respect for David Clowes. I believe Rosenior spent his (Clowes’) money more wisely than Warne has. It’s not a ‘crime’ to believe that and I’ve attempted to substantiate it by comparing the virtues of the relative signings. Now, got a match to go to where I won’t be abusing anyone at all...just hoping for a good performance and a step back in the right direction.

I haven't given an opinion as to whether Rosenior or Warne have made the better signings, though one could argue that Rosenior's forward and midfielders were/are better and Warne's defenders have been better, not hard because only Rooney remains in defence.

Its your continued and rather irrelevant labelling of Clowes as amateur or inexperienced which is irritating and just plain wrong. No Clowes hasn't owned a football club before, but then neither had Mel Morris. Valid criticism of his decisions is one thing, but making out the guy is an "amateur" owner is unnecessary and IMO insulting to DC. Other than that I don't have an issue.

What's the issue? I'm entitled to be irritated by the labelling of Clowes as "amateur" the rest of the debate I've said I'm happy to let lie.

I just wonder why you label him as such but never did with Mel Morris who arguably acted in a much more amateurish manner, promising big things, sacking ump**** managers, going into the dressing room to speak to players spending millions on so so players?

Clowes doesn't merit that label, everything he has done has been professional, have all his decisions produced the results fans crave? No not yet, but theres time.

Anyway leave out the unnecessary label and I shall say no more on the subject.

    Okay...one last try.

    1. Because the thread is about David Clowes not someone who took over nine years ago.
    2. Because, unlike Mr. Clowes, Morris wasn’t a football club ‘newbie’...he had experience of running DCFC at board room level well before he became owner. (Not that it did him much good.)
    3. Because the two are, from what we now understand, incomparable. They both grew up as keen fans of DCFC and are both seriously wealthy. Beyond that...where Morris seemed to turn into an ego driven and dishonest obsessive who came very close to destroying DCFC...Mr. Clowes appears to be a far more grounded man of integrity who has stepped in to save the club in its hour of greatest need.

If that last sentence doesn’t finally convince you of my opinion of David Clowes, nothing will. Virtually all football club owners however, as you have already stated, are ‘amateurs’. Mr. Clowes is no exception. That isn’t a comment about his standards...it’s a simple fact about the reality of how most football clubs, certainly at our current level, are run...by amateur benefactors who bring in the professionals (manager, coaches and players) to hopefully achieve success on the pitch.

Now...for the sake of my sanity and the well being of the whole forum can we, at best, return to some sort of civility or just agree to no longer ‘converse’ with each other? I doubt the rest of the forum gives a damn about which way it goes...they just seek an end to this tiresome, tedious and totally fruitless spat.

rA, as I have said, whatever you meant to say, (and I accept you aren't being negative towards him) describing Clowes as a "Rookie" or "amateur" comes across as disparaging the bloke and its unnecessary and irrelevant - and if as is the case, most owners of football clubs are amateurs then it generally isn't necessary to add that label is it?

Other than that I don't have an issue with you.

I mean look at Sheff Wed owner who has 6 years experience, I'm rather glad we have Clowes in charge! I also think he has handled the current situation well, of course time will tell how things pan out, but I am pleased that Warne is being given a chance to prove his credentials. We ahve gone down the manager swapping route and whilst that may well have been more entertaining for fans the club needs stability and a medium term plan and fans will have to be patient Derby have no absolute right to promotion whatever the budget, thats the reality of football at this level.

    Adios amigo!

Okay...so let’s move on, end the forum equivalent of Israel and Hamas, and make mac happy.
