    Arteta.

I don’t understand his histrionics after Arsenal’s defeat to Newcastle. He went on and on about it being disgraceful and embarrassing regarding Newcastle’s winning goal being allowed. He doesn’t make reference to the appalling tackle that Havertz made, which to my mind, was as bad a tackle and as obvious a red card as I have seen in many a year. Talk about a blinkered view.

I get why he's upset over the goal but he's taking it too far. VAR fails are hardly new and most teams will either fall foul of mistakes by it or benefit from them at some point. It's not always fair but he needs to get over it-especially given the behaviour of some of the players during the match.

Having watched the replays, personally I still think the ball looked not to have been kept in play before the cross was put in and regardless of was it or wasn't it off-side, the two handed push on the back of the Arsenal player trying to defend looked like a definite foul.

In a very niggley game, I totally agree that Havertz should have got a red for that appalling tackle on Longstaff, but then Newcastle's Guimaraes was also lucky not to get one for that shove of a forearm on Jorginho off the ball.

Looked out of play and to be honest could have been a foul and offside. Hate VAR and would rather have a ref mistake to just get on with than the fiasco of the X factor style PAUSE..."And the winner is!" Kills the game off, and in this case robbed a team of a point. We had a game where the refs mistakes cost us and then we had a match where everything went our way. Its been that way since the game began and as we have seen VAR makes no real difference and mistakes are STILL made.

I tend to agree. Overall, I do not think that VAR has improved the game. Players make mistakes, referees make mistakes and as you say, it has been the same for a hundred plus years. You would think that VAR would have addressed this but I’m afraid that it hasn’t as poor decisions are still being made. It has also taken the spontaneity out of the game for both players and fans. I personally think that we should ditch VAR and leave decisions to the on field referee, but it won’t happen.
Having said this, goal line technology has been a resounding success. I realise that a mistake was made in the Villa v. Sheffield Utd. game a few seasons back but that was due to equipment failure which was unavoidable.

Agreed, goal line tech is a good idea, and works well.

    It was. Generally sound though.
