They've had 2 players (both defenders) sent off and lost Maddison and Van de Ven to injury - quite a severe hamstring for Van de Ven.
They've had to change 3 outta 4 of their defence tonight.
Good result for us, especially with those two injuries to key players.
I watched the 30mins highlights of Hoofoot. Great match to watch as a neutral. Spurs being totally Spursy! haha Shame we're 5 matches away for them and not 3. We'd have benefitted from the fall out of this sh!t show!
To be honest they were the better team with 9 against a Chelsea team that really did their best to lose that match. Delighted we're gonna face both these teams in the next month. We should have a few more players back to fitness by the time.
Chelsea are woeful. I have no doubt that we are levels above both these teams. Postecoglou now has to show if he is a good manager or not. The fairy-tale start to life at Spur has come to an end. Now the real job of managing the north London basket case begins.
A nice 5-7 game losing run will set things right for the lillywhites. I can't see it happening but would be nice to see their bubble burst!
I actually quite like Big Ange, he’s your typical Aussie, and not a massive whinge or pretentious tw&t that some other managers are.
He was gracious in defeat, he raised the players and in his interview the one thing that stood out, when asked about the Red card and also a penalty he just said they had plenty of time to turn things around… which Arteta seeing his team have f**k all decent chances would never be able to say so he just spat his dummy out… but even the 25+ mins should have been enough for a team to have at least 1 good chance that makes a keeper work.
I like Spurs football, but am very surprised this is the first time they have been walloped with a scoreline. Their fullbacks push forward and invert into almost extra midfielders and make extra space and pressure in the attack phase of the game, but as Chelsea showed last night they are very vulnerable to the counter attack and more teams will look more and more to spring that now.
Then losing, and losing some key players, is likely to hurt them… but then they looked good without them last night, so it’s not like they will definitely lose the next few games.
Truth is I’d like them to lose because they are a real contender for CL footy next season, based on the start of the season… they still need a real stern test… Chelsea aren’t one at the moment really, and events handed Chelsea the win… whereas Liverpool were a real test but events handed Spurs then win. The one real test they had was away at the gunners and they got a respectable draw… so jury is still out on how they will do over the season, but they are going to get enough points off lower table teams to make them contenders for Europe in one way or another
Solid break down and I agree with all your points mate.
I would add thay despite playing against 9 Chelsea still did their best to lose that match. Chelsea are horrible. I don't see them as a threat at all. Spur played front football, fast aggressive good to watch stuff. No wonder the whiteheart faithful have bought in. Ange is a very likeable character too as you mentioned. Genuine not a spoilt life long football elite type like Misterton heed or Turkey teeth.
However, comparing spurs to us is like comparing the bridge of a nose with a clenched fist. We are a sledge hammer. Perhaps spurs have am edge of technical quality but heart, determinate, relentless endeavour, tactically and unity we are superior.
Gonna be great to give Chelsea a good mauling jn a few weeks time
