The ‘spotlight’ maybe on them much more than was once the case because of technological advancements/intrusions, I agree...but they are not unique. Entertainers, musicians, dj’s, sports stars, ‘celebrities’ in general are all subject to similar scrutiny in a way that thevlikes if Savile and Harris (to name but two) seemed to ‘escape’. Generally speaking though, the others seem to learned rather quicker than politicians imo.
I feel it is fair to hold our leaders and rule makers more accountable than us mere mortals, Sith and I’m not sure Gordon Brown did anything ‘wrong’ in the way that subsequent politicians have. Like you, I think, I’d have held the same opinion of that particular woman and drawn the same conclusion. Awareness of audience is crucial in such circumstances, Brown, as you say, just didn’t know/remember his mic’. Big mistake but not wrong doing imo.
So we ahve a home secretary that seems to be trying to do to society what Truss did for the economy. Furthermore, it seems her disgusting article in The Times wasn't approved by No 10! It seems Sunak is too weak to sack her or would rather have her inside the tent rather than give her full reign from the back benches.
More pertinently, though, is it not atrocious that we have a Home secretary who seems to spend her time running a campaign for Leadership of the Tory party instead of doing the job she is paid to do?
Indeed, but they’ll probably be confused because, to them, she’s the ‘wrong’ colour and ethnicity.
Bit of a nightmare at the moment. Braverman is a dangerous, disruptive and, imo, evil influence while certain others appear to be doing their best to dislodge Starmer from within...largely in the name of ‘my God being better than your God’.
In the meantime, Farage - who apparently a large percentage of Tory Party membership would welcome back into the fold - must be thoroughly enjoying a situation from which he alone stands to be the single possible long term beneficiary.
There is clearly a base of around 20% who do, it seems likely that some of the 150,000 and declining members of the party might be, though half still seem to believe Truss and Johnson failure wasn't down to their own utter uselessness.
Braverman is trying to introduce Trumpism to the Uk, thats a narrow band of idiots to appeal to, most people in the UK still have some respect for truth, decent behaviour and the rule of law. Its utterly amazing that having ****ed the country over in the last decade the Tories think lurching evermore to the right is the answer!!
Appealing to people's baser instincts - mainly those unable to cope with complicated issues and who like things to be black and white will follow the faith, family and flag theme - works to an extent, but as Poland has shown when those of a more realistic and reasonable nature band together instead of arguing amongst themselves, the hard right authoritarian politicians can be overcome.
I do find it funny (in a macabre sort of manner) that the evangelical right spend so much time trying to protect the unborn "life", but then are equally vociferous about protecting the right for people to have guns and endanger those actually born!
But then if anybody is unable to se the irony and hypocrisy of a politician from an ethnic immigrant background spouting the bile that she does I guess they deserve what would happen to them, their rights and freedoms should she ever get near power, which she won't. Very doubtful she will even get near the party leadership to be honest.
