If the club believe these players are a asset to them in both the championship or league 1 it makes sense to have contracts in place that protect those assets, allowing us to benefit if other clubs want them or the player moves. Just because the club makes an offer doesn't mean the player has to accept, but offers should be on the table to try and tie the players down. Cluases for relegation and for buy-outs can be added to protect the club and the latter the player. To let contracts run down is too risky a policy and we end up failing to retain assets we have developed or to benefit from making those players a viable product on the transfer market. We know that TS has previously made errors in this area, look at the fiasco with Smith where he was very shocked when Smith turned down the best offer (he is like a son to me) was a phrase used. TS is no idiot but he has made mistakes in the past and it is fair for fans to question the previous track record when it comes to the management of our playing assets and the funds generated from players leaving. Lets look at the total money earned from 4 key players Ladapo, smith, Icky and Ogbene we earned £0m

Maybe Nigeria will come knocking for his services if he keeps up the good form

Don’t forget that rufc will have to pay increased terms between now and July to two players which would not be pennies. This is regardless of whether we get relegated or not. More strain on finances.

Also I presume we have to keep an eye on FFP rules and if we pay more to existing players then there’s less budget available for new recruits in January. A squad shuffle with the long term sick notes might help though

Fully take on board comments made about them running down their contracts or asking to leave
    Big dilemma

We should sell Ollie who has reached the highest level of his capability and use that cash to make a better offer to Odoffin- who has still to reach his best.

But some fans want him to throw even more money at it. Whilst things can get better points wise it’s not going to plan atm.

I’d like us to extend both of their contracts but I can see why he might be reluctant to give higher long term deals to a squad who haven’t given him the confidence atm that it’s a good investment
Risk vs rewards. Risks too big as we stand
Dead easy to spend / waste someone else’s money
and the same old last line is rolled out again....zzzzzzz

Flour, it's not about spending someone else's money so why do folk always roll that old chesnut out?

Do you seriously think that I don't know what TS has poured into the club this season? Of course I do pal but, how many more of our players are just simply going to slip from our grasp by letting contracts run down and leave for nothing when we've built them up to such a good standard other clubs simply come in and snap them up? It's got to stop.

Extending their contracts now is no different to keeping them on the pay roll if a new contract was offered in January? Strike now and look to retain these two players, Taylor must be seething there's no contract to offer them at this present time.

Spending even more money on something that isn’t currently delivering what we need does not make good business sense though.
Tony is a primarily an astute businessman not an emotional football fan

If we get relegated the offers we would receive for these two players would be relatively small in my opinion.

Odoffin to be rested today? MT says he doesn't want to risk him getting same injury that kept him out previously. Noticed tues towards end of the game he was showing just abit of distress. With Peltier back it's an option. If we went to.a back 3 wouldn't want Ayala & Morrison part of it together.
