Not sure last night constitutes a ‘giant killing’ anymore, MA and Swale is right, ‘sometimes you have to accept that the other team were better’...but surely not when you’ve fielded a strong side with promotion ambitions from L1 at home to an average L2 side. Didn’t go last night but it all feels a little demoralising. Will the real Derby County please step forward?
If average is being only outside the automatic places on goal difference is average, give me average. They are one of the top goalscoring sides in the top 4 divisions. Level with Ipswich on 36 in the League and only Stockport with 37 have scored more. They are a good side who led us 2-0 in the first tie. Came back from 1 down to win 1-3 last night. If they're average L2 then, based on these head to heads, we might just be L2 relegation fodder.

They're a good side. As are we. We lack consistency. Whether that's down to complacency when we play "lesser" teams or simply no more than inconsistency being our only consistent quality is the riddle PW et al need to solve. This squad is easily good enough on paper to go up. That quality needs to be translated into consistent performances on the pitch.

We're still in the BSM Trophy and could still get to Wembley but that won't happen if we fail to perform against sides. We could go up but we need to get that consistency.

Onwards and upwards. Don't get "over the moon" at good performances, don't get down at lesser ones. We're going to get both throughout the season. We're also going to get some average to mediocre stuff as well. Most clubs do. We'll be back, we'll do well but we have to learn to accept the highs and the lows and keep our feet on the floor.
