Yeah sadly it really is and how do we compete with that

Last compete top flight season for each side without any ground restrictions so ignore 2021/22 for both sides

    United 2022/23
    Average 9461
    Position 12th

    Dundee 2018/19
    Average 6025
    Position 12th

I think I've found Uniteds highest average, 12,830, for the 88'89 season. Can't seem to find a higher one. The grounds in Scotland are much smaller now so really big crowds are a thing of the past. Tannadice is about half it's old capacity, Dens a quarter. Easter Road once held 65,000, mental.

I would have thought we would have had bigger averages in the league winning season or the following season that surprises me .

Only 3000 . For "one of their own" Who's career highlight is beating United, a true blue??? That can't be correct can it???

There were probably restrictions on crowds at stadia in 2021 because of COVID-19?

We were still growing our fanbase at that time, if the same thing happened now our average would be much higher if the Stadium capacity allowed for it.
We continued to grow our fanbase.
We took 28000 to Hampden for the 2010 cup final. In our first final in 74 which I attended there was maybe 5000?
In 50 years we have grown considerably as a club whereas in the same 50 years the Fun have declined considerably as a club.
I'm afraid that is undeniable fact.

Missed a probable sell out at home to Sevco in August and a big gate (likely 8-10k) at home to hibs on boxing day, enough to change an average over 19 games from 7100 to 8000

Ie total attendance across both games restricted to 5000 instead of 20000 roughly

    135k divided by 19 or 150k divided by 19

They are also missing the overall picture of fluctuations

Crowds in the old 18 team set up had dwindled by the early to mid 70, it took a few years of the Premier division for them to increase across the country again

The early 80s was only the beginning of that, by the late 80s crowds had really grew across all divisions again resulting in 1988/89 being our highest average

The was another drop off early 90s and another period where they picked up again late 90s (not preventing a 2,700 average attendance in 1997 for the dees right enough while we were at 9,300)

Same story this century, a drop off early on then a big increase in mid noughties, a drop off early 2010's and a good increase again in recent seasons, maybe helped by people missing it during covid?
