The Broad Marsh was fine, until the war on cars started.
I wonder how much EU money went into councillor's back pockets, regarding the tram, (can't think why they all love the EU so much). There's nothing like having a public transport system, that needs the majority to subsidise for the minority thar use it, after years of upheaval for commuters.
It must take some special people to lose money as a tourist attraction such as Nottingham Castle, with a cash cow such as Robin Hood to hand.
Anything that looks too good to be true, generally is, and public money shouldn't be gambled with, knowing that if it was successful, plenty of that money would have found it's way into back pockets, rather than benefitting the council tax payers.

I thought it was just the BBC which was biased, but no it turns out it’s also the police, the civil service, the courts, lefty lawyers, universities(especially the one that Jackal went to, but he had the last laugh hehehe) the national trust, and the RNLI.

Thank goodness for Tommy Robinson, aka Stephen Yaxley-Lennon for standing up for those goood old British values of racism, Islamophobia, assaulting policemen, football hooliganism, assaulting someone else, inciting terrorism, and conning his gullible followers. I can’t believe the coppers nicked him again, he didn’t do anything!

Obviously, it's a lot more complicated than just blaming individual council mismanagement or the Tory cuts to councils serving poorer communities to give more money to richer ones, as Sunak openly boasted about in the campaign trail. Both are obviously major contributory factors. If it were just Tory cuts, then why isn't every council in trouble? If it were just individual mismanagement, why are there so many councils in trouble? And it's not as if all the councils in trouble are Labour-run... although, again, as Labour councils have had much bigger cuts than Tory councils, you'd expect more Labour than Tory councils to run into difficulties.

I believe some thinking goes like this: we need more money, let's raise business rates. Oh, shops are moving out of the City, less money, lets raise business rates. Meanwhile, let's stop so many cars from coming into the City. Even 10-15yrs ago my wife was preferring to go to Leicester for shopping when a few years earlier people from Derby and Leicester were coming into Nottingham. As Kelsdyke said, too many big projects - in times of austerity not a good idea and anyway the UK can't do big projects. I joined up with Robin Hood energy even though it wasn't the cheapest, their organisation and systems were rudimentary to say the least. All these cycle paths and no cyclists on them. Some of them are laughable, just pinch a bit of road, dig it up, relay green and put a picture of a bicycle on it. I know it seems a good idea, but really. Once you could barely walk through the crowds between Vic Centre and Broad Marsh. Plans might look nice (they do have plans don't they??).

Like Birmingham, sometimes their ambitions are bigger than their abilities. Stick to basic necessities unless there is a steady surplus stream, don't milk the cow dry, get to grips with the care system (I know it needs money but the haphazard way it seems to operate points to resources being wasted).

Now hoping my bin will be emptied tomorrow, I have paid my Coucil Tax.

But, last time I looked, there were as many Tory Councils having problems as Labour ones. So no real political point scoring to be made there then.
