I actually agree with you on this one Nudger , I tend to be as critical as the next when we play poorly as we did in the second half ,however I am puzzled that when ever we play well it seems that it is never because of how well we play but more how poor the opposition were , not sure that is totally fair .

Tell thi truth Shads, I thought we played well against Stevenage. I think we've played well at Reading too. We showed great determination in both those games to fight back after early setbacks and showed touches of quality. Teams like Stevenage are very difficult to break down once they're in front. We kept passing the ball and believing against a well organised resolute defence.

We did well at Port Vale in the first half because they were literally all over the place. Their midfielders were a yard off the pace giving our midfield players the freedom of the pitch to strut their stuff completely unchallenged at times. Their defensive line was as jagged as a Bow saw blade because McAtee would drop deep taking defenders with him enabling Cole to easily spin off the shoulder and make runs in behind without being caught offside. We also had runners from midfield unmarked like Phillips but couldn't find the necessary quality to properly take advantage of that which was disappointing despite the scoreline. Vale were also poor in possession causing us no bother barring a couple of pot shots from outside the box. Basically they were a shambles with their own fans clearly unhappy and booing for prolonged periods. Vale didn't give any fouls away either in that first half which speaks volumes and all this has to be taken into consideration rather than laud praise upon our performance.

We efficient and professional as you'd expect. We were also very clinical and as I said in the matchday thread, the goals were very well taken but we still weren't nowhere near our best in my view because it was pretty much gift wrapped for us in that first half. It's not said to run the club or team down, it's just an honest assessment on the game without getting carried away because 3 unanswered goals went in.

We are within our band level in the football hierarchy of bottom ten Championship and top ten Third Division.

I always anticipate a defeat when playing the top 14 of Championship teams because their players are, in general, better than ours.
Equally I always anticipate a victory when playing the bottom 14 of the Third Division because our players are, in general, better than theirs.

It is usually the games between the bottom ten clubs in the Championship and those between the top ten in the Third Division that are key each season. We have one today (Friday). I would say Posh have the better defence, Barnsley have the better midfield and Posh have the better attack. If the Posh attack are on form their pace will tear the arseoyle from our dodgy defence and hand it back to them on a platter. If our midfield control the game and we are clinical with the chances that will arise we are in for an important victory.

Go Well Neill and Jon's Men's Team.

I don’t know whether SB’s comment relates specifically to where the club sits right now - but if it’s a comment about the general level of the club then IMO that’s a terrible way of thinking as it dispels any thoughts of ASPIRATION ???

What sort of life would we all lead if we all accepted the position we were born into ???
Personally this is something I’ve fought hard against all my life.

The most important thing that was said during the last supporters meeting was when JAQ said something on the lines of - ‘we don’t see the club as little old Barnsley’.

Those are the facts this century Nudge (apart from one freak Covid year).

I don't need any lectures about football ambition from the wife of a New York Hedge Fund Investor, whose only reason for buying shares in Barnsley was the financial pitch from Conway about profits that could be made from undervalued football clubs in Europe.

I was there every game when our band in the football pyramid was middle to bottom of the Fourth Division.

Sorry Nudger but these owners aspirations go no further than the bank account , we have had a couple of golden opportunities to kick on after successful seasons but the owners both current & in the recent past have decided to cash in instead of investing & this pattern shows no sign of changing , unlike many of our fans I do not believe there will be a january sale at Oakwell but do not be fooled into things are about to change, last january we kept our nerve but come the summer the usual buy one get one free notice went up at Oakwell and anything saleable was duly sold & once again replaced by raw potential , this is how they work, they have no connection with the fans or the area ,it is just a business to them, until they sell up & we get owners who want to progress then nothing will change

Im one of those who doesnt share your optimism re the January window.

I think the ownership will have a feel for the likelihood of our end of contract players signing new deals with us. Without warm feelings for a positive outcome on that front, I think they will do their usual and sell the 'stock'. It might not be an 'everything must go sale' as we have seen before but i predict several players will go so that the proceeds can be fully reinvested in the playing personnel. Just like weve seen before...... NOT! Theyve got form on this front havent they?

The glimmer of light that I see is this, if a firesale occurs again, as in the past, I feel they will lose the fanbase. There are many sat on the fence waiting to see what happens and this could be the last straw. Maybe the ownership are aware of this and change their habits.

Maybe Im wrong, retention until summer of the current squad plus new defenders this window might give us a shot at the play offs. Time will tell.

....and let the Director of Football have an input identifying one or two experienced leaders in defence rather than Genius James identifying another five or six with potential.

I am not sure if the club will sell players in the January window but frightening to think Shads, that the club has got very little assets to sell now. Williams £300k plus savings on his wages. Kane £300k plus savings on his wages. Cole £500k plus savings on his wages. Styles £400k plus savings on his wages. Connell in my opinion will be here to the close season at least.
