Agree. Surely building insurance covers it.

The old main stand at Belle Vue wo set on fire bi arsonists who were paid by the Donny chairman Ken Richardson so he could try and claim a big insurance pay art. They all got jailed when found guilty of conspiracy to arson and arson itself.

    What's not to like .
I’m glad you have finally got behind Neerav and directors.
It’s great to see that you want him and the other directors to own Oakwell.

However - as much as I also support Neerav - I prefer this present deal where the ground and surrounding land is in the hands of the local authority for long term security for the benefit of people in Barnsley.

Tell that to the people of Calderdale Nudge where the Council are looking to sell The Shay because of budget shortfalls.

It is only a small proportion of Barnsley MDC residents that are Barnsley FC fans. If the matter of selling Oakwell were put to a local referendum the result may disappoint you.

At the moment the Leader of the Council Steve Houghton is a life long Barnsley fan. That could change.

It is the Covenant protecting Oakwell in the long term.

I am not sure whether it matters if the council members are fans or not SB , I simply would not trust them to run a bath , the fact that they have turned Hoyland Common from a rural village into a commercial nightmare destroying green belt land & creating traffic carnage fills me with no confidence what so ever , I was hoping that one day our current owners would move on & we would return to an owner or owners who had an affiliation to the club & the town ,thus making future decisions on the direction of the club with its best interests at heart but alas the council hold the cards & that frightens me .

Having been brought up in Hoyland Common Shads, I have to agree that they have made a mess of it.

Having seen the documentary on the Howard bro's (who's house is it anyway) filmed in 1985 where the council turfed out two elderly men from their home (in order to aquire their land to build on) which had been in their family for centuries, I wouldn't trust the council as far as I could throw em.

Safeguarded Oakwell? I'm not so sure personally. The covenant, as SB has alluded to is in place but no doubt there'll be hidden rules or a loophole somewhere to override that as it was indeed proved the case with the Howard Bros.

Let's not be fooled by media/council/club propaganda and appreciate that our future playing football on the Oakwell site may not be as cut and dried as it may seem.

There's plenty of issues that need to be questioned in my humble opinion. I hope I'm completely wrong and certain parties do the morally correct thing. We shall have to wait and see.
