ON top of that LW was not a manager he was a head coach, most of the others were Managers , where there was more responsibility in identifying and recruiting players, something the now Notts owners do themselves and by using rador
Curle in 6th ahead of Cotterill imo. KC is the most underrated Notts Manager in my lifetime. Consistent top 10 club in L1 whilst playing some good football especially away from home. Not only that i'm sure he was sacked with us in 10th but with 3 games in hand, that had we won would have seen us up to 3rd. He also had the huge backing of the players, it's no secret the players were devastated when he left. Trew sacking Curle also led to Bialkowski, Sheehan, Liddle, Bishop and Judge ect wanting to leave the club imo. Finally i'm not his biggest fan, but having Williams lower than Nolan is outrageous. Nolan and his toxic traits were a big reason we dropped into Non-League.

Curle was sacked mainly due to his anti football at home and declining attendances due to the horrible playing style. We were getting 4 or 5k in L1. Not sustainable at all and I can see the sense in Trew getting rid. Unfortunately he had absolutely no idea who to replace him with and the budget cuts at the time sent us plummeting fast. Nolan got so far with the pals act for a while but a manager who is constantly on the piss and has members of the squad as good mates is never a good idea is it. Hardy knew this and did nothing about it. Exceptionally poor management. The good news is that something like that would never be allowed to happen now.

This was the high point nearly a decade later we have been lower. As for gates not sustainable , if we were naer the top of L1 today the gates would be much higher maybe near double ?
To bad Curle played his best football away from home ..

I recall Curle giving quite a pointed (pre/post match Tuesday night?) interview bemoaning the fact that Trew would not dish out on another forward. The sacking came not long afterwards.

Wasn't there an unwritten rule that if you lose against Hartlepool you're out!

If I recall it was Jason Scotland that was coming in. He turned up for negotiations and was offered something like £200 a week.

    Went to Barnsley instead.

I thought it was Hardy,s toxic traits, by blowing massive amouts of money after the play off defeat-srtaing with wasting money on duds like Vaughan in the summer transfer market - then sacking Nolan after 5 matches, then worse paying compensation for Kewell then sacking him before bringing Ardley in who was used to fighting in relegation battles up till then - a complete circus
in fact appointing Ardley was the final nail in our coffin and Hardy,s biggest mistake , he couldnt even better |Cammbell at Macclesfield who,s off field financial situation was worse than ours

Yes it was madness, its absoulutely true when Notts have sacked Managers they had no idea who to replace them with, and by default chose a manager even worse

This is why i chose the top 10, because then Notts reached high points, even recently Curle, Nolan set table position that has took years to break through and to date still not done, and in the top five, in the 2 top tiers , i am still waiting 30 years later for Notts to return to the top two divisions

Totally agree. Curle was a good manager for us, but some fans just never accepted him. He took us on that record-breaking away run, battering teams like Charlton. In with a shout of playoffs. Yes, the football wasn't exactly breath-taking, especially at home, but the results were mostly good.

One of the most undeserved and bizarre sackings at Notts, and that's saying something. The only thing that was more bizarre was appointing Kiwomya as his replacement, but that was basically just Trew giving up.
