The ‘taking the knee’ nonsense has, in my opinion, made matters worse. It is very, very irritating and I am sure that it drives some to make objectionable comments. It was a ridiculous gesture from the outset, appearing to align to an anarchist group.

Tend to agree with you on this Ketts! Did not object so much to its initial use but when it kept being done its message became lost and think many saw it then as ineffective "virtue signalling" that irritated more than inspired unity. The famous "Black power salute" at the 1968 Olympics made its important point during a time of continued Civil Rights issues in the USA but would have been rendered similarly futile if over used.

Sadly racism in football does seem to be rearing its ugly head again despite the high numbers of Black players particularly being involved in the game these days and the skill and individual popularity of many of them, but this issue must surely also be a reflection of society as a whole. Certainly clubs need to address it but it's roots lie elsewhere and agree that the "taking the knee" thing won't help

Maybe it’s just me getting old but I think that society in general is on quite a steep downwards slide; there’s a lot more hostility about wherever you go. The number of stabbings that one hears about almost every day is shocking. The more society in general deteriorates the more one will see of racism, which let’s face it, has been around since humans first roamed the Earth. Humans are tribal beings and we may not like to admit it but we will all, ultimately, look after our own. Horrible thought but civilisation may be temporary!
