    That's a valid point although I maintain that it can be taught to very young players who by the time they reach the first team should be comfortable with the passing game.

    Which brings me back to the idea above, that as a club we need to get with it.

    Time to rip up the hoofball manual and play some proper stuff.

    We already tried it didn't we when we hired Mark Burton as academy manager, that's the way he taught John Stones to play football.

    But he didn't seem to stay long.

    Don't Crewe subscribe to the pure passing game thing? Remember them losing heavily week in week out yet persevering with the defenders trying to pass it around the penalty area with the keeper. Wonder how their fans feel about this post

    I don't know exactly what happened subsequently but in hiring Burton I'm guessing that was the intention.
