Greavsey, Highlights as it says on the tin, are Highlights, they don't show all the s,h,i,t,howsery that Brentford partake in. In their promotion season they won 2-0 at Molenuex and showed us a full range of the dark arts, and again on Saturday.
When the whistle blew at three o'clock Brentford had a point and right from the start they wasted time. Players go down pretending to be injured, as soon as the Physio is ready to come on they make a miraculous recovery, and don't have to leave the pitch. A player has the ball for a throw in stands there for a while and then gives the ball to another player. The goalkeeper places the ball for a goal kick, steps back and then moves the ball to another position. The keeper makes a routine catch and falls to the ground with the ball and lies there for a few seconds before getting to his feet and then wanders about before releasing the ball. All these seconds add up and break any momentum the opposition have. The referee, who refereed our first match of the season against Man U, just let them get on with it. They really are a dreadful side to watch.
We were our own worst enemy at times on Saturday. Sa almost cost us an early goal with a dreadful pass out, but he then pulled off two great saves. We suffered when Cunha went off, although we were not playing badly, and seeing plenty of the ball. Once again, poor defending from a corner allowed the visitors to take the lead and we knew then it wasn't to be our day.
At half time Toti was sacrificed for young Fraser, in an attempt to get back into the game, and we thought we were when Dawson ghosted in to score, the stadium erupted and momentum was with us. Then after what seemed an age, the dreaded announcement that VAR was looking at the goal. Yet another toe nail decision. Had it stood who knows what might have happened. Then another brain fade from Sa allowed them a second. We had chances but nothing was going our way. Neto hit the post and their keeper pulled of a couple of good saves. The stats show we have more possession, more passes more shots and less yellow cards, but Brentford took the three points back to the big city.
We still have problems scoring against teams who come to defend, and we have a few of them coming up in the next few months.
Brentford, thank goodness we don't have to play them again until next season
