I obviously don’t know when you got into football but say you were a 10 year old. I just find it interesting that that would be your reason for not being an England fan at that age.
Likewise if you became a fan as an adult then I wouldn’t imagine that you would want to support anyone based on fans mentalities.
I notice that the same papers that were criticised for publishing a picture of a black player when England were beaten, are today heavily featuring pictures of another black player purely because he looks good with his shirt off. Are we supposed to get upset that they didn't choose a white player - or would we be better accepting that some people look better than others, some make better photographic subjects than others in certain situations...and none of it has anything to do with the colour of their skin?
I don't regard people as fans unless they have any sort of intention to attend. As a kid I had some interest but back then it was only really WCs because of coverage. By the time I was old enough (kid/adolescent) to see the way England fans behave abroad, I knew I'd never attend and interest fizzled out. It's not extraordinary, nor interesting.
I supported RUFC from being a young kid on my old man's shoulders in the Tivoli and went frequently enough that it became part of life, which continued through to when I started taking mine. Interest never dwindled, so I accept that a good number of our fans are people I have little in common with and accept it's part of the scenery.
