Shots at goal 0
I expected to lose this match but not like this.
It's 4-1 and we still haven't had a shot at goal.
Random stat alert:
Antonio Rudiger is the first footballer to ever score a goal for Scotland at a European championships who’s name doesn’t begin Mc
Expected and can accept that we were up against far better players, that we would be trying to stop Germany and have low possession.
What can't be accepted is doing pretty much nothing but watch them pass it about, create nothing and try to keep the score down the whole game.
Also the shape was wrong and should have been changed at least straight after they scored their first, but apparently that's the best we can do. Played like total minnows and embarrassed.
Given that we've been building towards this for some time. I expected a more cohesive and competent performance from us on our return to the big stage.
Germany were good and I liked the way they zipped the ball about in the top third.
Well beaten by a better side. But the team can't dwell on this result. A defeat was the likely result for us in this match.
Now that fixture is out of the way we need to put all our effort into getting the set up and game plan right for our next fixture.
Pumped....
That's about it really...
People said after the 2014 Cup Final that that was a sackable offence for Jackie Mac. By the same criteria then that last night was 100% the same. It was clear from minute number one that SC had got it wrong. All the Germans were doing was taking advantage of the back three by constantly playing balls over the top down the flanks beyond Robertson and Ralston. It was so obvious what was going on but in his arrogance? Clarke did absolutely nothing about it and frankly was not going to do anything about it until HT one suspects as he wouldn’t have wanted to admit he’d got it wrong by making an earlier subby/change. That decision has ultimately phucked us up because we didn’t get in at HT two down and instead we lost a penalty, a goal, a player and frankly any chance of qualifying. The GD now to me is unrecoverable and anything short of 6 points now I suspect will not be enough. You wonder if that’s why him and McPhee had the stand to argument on the touchline. Was McPhee frustrated by pointing out the phucking obvious and seeing absolutely nothing done about it?
To add BTW - McTominay is not fit. To me his FA Cup Final injury has probably been more than we’re letting on. He was nowhere near the player we know he is last night and if despite this the manager insists on still playing him then that’s on SC, not the player.
Agree 100%. The players didn't rise to the occasion, in fact it looked like the occasion got to them, but Clarke's stubborn and stupid allegiance to a back 5 done us before a ball was kicked. It's on him mainly.
If you watch any European football whether it be UEFA Cups you never see underdog teams use that formation and it's for good reason. Underdog teams that go to Ibrox Parkhead even top English grounds in search of a point usually play a flat back 4 with at least a further bank of four in front of that.
I'm scunnered with Clarke, his arrogance has cost us many times.
Not hindsight but I'd have played Tierney at right back in the friendlies and played him there in a 4 last night. Ralston is just not good enough, doubt McCrorie will be either. Gilmour will definitely come back in but if McTominay is definitely fit and only the camp know that either way, I'd take McGregor out. And, after about 2 years Clarke doesn't know his best CB pairing, hasn't chosen two and stuck with them in a back 4 to gain understanding and confidence.
Keeper is no very good, but Clarke won't bin him, probably nobody better anyway.
Re GD, ITV commentator said that it's head to head results that decide not GD but no idea if that's correct.
I was angry as fk watching that and Hungary/Switzerland will have seen we can't cope with players pressing us. I'm expecting 2 more defeats. I think a better coach, a less stubborn coach would get more out of what is a decent squad. Can we find one.
But the SFA will stick with this boring stubborn guy.
