One is clearly world class. He plays for the biggest club in the world and has just won player of the year in his league.

    Not even 21 yet.

    That's one guy's opinion I couldn't care less about.

I can’t see how he’s world class if he can’t even compete in a European tournament. He will come up against the South American,s in two years who are even better.

He was good, but not brilliant vs Serbia
Disappeared vs an average Denmark team.
If he improves dramatically in this tournament then I might change my mind.

He’s a Champions League winner. I’d say that’s the highest level there is.

    Certainly higher than this tournament.

This tournament hasn’t even started yet either.

There's some very good players in this England squad but they look ordinary even when playing teams that don't have a realistic chance of winning the tournament

    Why?

Bookies price based on risk exposure.

The point is, this has always been a tournament where teams can outperform themselves, with two extremely notable examples in 1992 and 2004. The expansion to 24 teams marginally increases the number of teams who likely won't win, but it's historically a tournament where teams have often been able to go better than their 'form' suggests they ever should.

Risk exposure = one of the better teams are likely to win it
