Everyone seems to be saying that Hungary knocked the Jocks out of the tournament; not true, had Hungary not scored, they would both have been knocked out as a draw was the end for both. Scotland effectively knocked themselves out by not scoring. They should have had that ‘penalty’, though!

I’ve never met a single Scot or Welsh person that would admit to supporting England against an opponent.

    It’s poppy c o c k.

By and large not so. I have Welsh, Irish and distanced inheritance to Scottish decency, so we see ourselves as British. Yes when one or the other meet sportingly, there is a bit of banter and rivalry. Bit there is support for the other nation otherwise. Simply put, we are one nation. Tell me, have any of you not shouted for a welsh, Scot or Northern Irish in the last straight of the Olympics, when running for GB and N Ireland.

I have a very Scottish surname and my late dad did our family tree before he passed away and our clan emanated from Dumbarton.

I’m proud of my Yorkshire birth county and of my Black Country upbringing, I feel absolutely nothing other than antipathy in sporting contests for any other home nations.

I did when I was younger, until I actually started working with people from home nations.

The Olympics etc is different, we fight under one flag as a united force and I support to the hilt.

It’s the small mindedness of the national football and rugby type supporter that turned me against home nations.

I knew lots of Scottish and Welsh lads in the army. Most of them were personable enough, I classed them as mates and would quite literally have gone to war with them.

But when it comes to football and rugby forget it. Pure tribal rivalry and they wouldn't have wanted it any other way. I have more time for them than the Villa mind 😉.
