We are not that vehicle. We are a very different beast. A restoration job. We’re being built from the ground up, brick by brick. In a way Fatso has left us in a very poor situation but due to his levels of neglect there is no big bloated organisation with hundreds of people and procedures in place. The board have come in with Eales and started from scratch.
Again, from the rumblings I’ve heard inside the club Eddie Howe was not aligned with Ashworth and he seemed to be the odd one out. His work with the academy aside it appears his personality didn’t fit the organisation and there was friction.
No doubt Mitchell’s experience with the RB group and his talent in high potential players at Southampton & Spurs respectively is on par if not well above that of C-Ashworth. Also, after the riggers of the recruitment process with one of the world’s top recruitment consultants the club have once again enhanced a position within the C-Suite that will benefit the club immediately and long term.
Even the hacks at ‘The Chronical’, as clueless as they are, have the good sense of calling Mitchell’s signing as a ‘statement appointment’.
When we look at the whole process over the last few weeks. Taking out all the clickbait, sensationalised, fact-less internet chatter. The facts are simple.
Newcastle United have signed a world class DoF with international pedigree, something Ashworth can not boost.
Newcastle United have broken their transfer record in sales TWICE, for a fringe squad player with, admitted, potential & a youth prospect who hasn’t kicked a ball for the club.
Newcastle United have put serious profit on the balance sheet far beyond the figure required to satisfy PSR regulations setting them up for a major summer rebuild. Allowing them to spend big in the positions we all know the squad needs to strengthen.
Newcastle United has not had any information leaks and the club has gone about its business in a quiet and dignified manner, achieving its objects in a timely fashion.
As fans we need to start getting used to things at the club being done in such a manner. We’re no longer the basket case of a club we were during the Sheppard and Hall days. We’re no longer the laughingstock of the Ashley era. We are perfectly on track to achieving the ambitions of our owners and fans to become a consistent establish Premier League contender & a team that will compete for the Elite trophies in Europe.
Bravo the board, Howay the Toon!
