    A touch of class

The way our board and owners have handled the whole DOF business has been very classy. Mitchell’s appointment completely under the radar and Ashworth’s leaving (the timing and quite probably the fee) controlled by us.
It’s now clear that we were waiting for 30th June to get shot of the weasel and announce Mitchell rather than Mufc holding out to try to hurt us financially in the face of PSR.
Being a bit vindictive (something our board is not) I’m delighted we got a man ManU wanted - it’s the first time I remember getting one over on them.

Can’t wait to see what Mitchell does at the club.

Thanks for kicking this thread off Tops. Saves me jumping on to do it. All the hysteria of last week wrapped up in a nice bow. This deal was negotiated weeks ago. The players we've sold were planned and everything was organised.

The board held their nerve and didn't get bullied for C-ashworth. Made a big profit on snake.

Yet again, like Bruno, Isak et al, totally under the radar as you mention tops.

The people in charge are happy to let the little people, fishwives gossip whilst they get with business.

With the signing of Mitchell in the last few subsequent hours I've just spent transiting through airports and in the air it has give me a chance to take a step back and think about the whole run up to the end of the Premier Leagues tax year, the June deadline.

So clubs that do their business 'early', some dubious 'swaps', have been slightly questioned but seen as doing good business. Planned and managed well.

However, it could also be seen as panicking and making rash decisions. In project work, especially in the £10+ project world, a world I've worked and managed in for around 15 yrs, the deadline is the target. Coming in early isn't rewarded, there is no bonus for getting the job done before the 'go-live' deadline. On projects where things have all gone well and things do complete ahead of schedule is a sometime a nice bonus but often it turns out that something was forgotten or mistakes were made. Things were 'less optimal' that have a knock-on affect on future programs or the system is just missing functionality & is incapable of being optimised.

Once you get going with a live broadcast system (I build TV stations, studios & transmission networks) it is very difficult to perform major system changes. Millions of dollars for installation materials, cabling, conduits, connections & man-hours. Pulling up floors, cutting holes in load bearing walls, bringing in 3 phase power, huge H&S implications and insurance contract. Once the 'dust has settled' both physically and figuratively & the 24/7 broadcast format is rolling any major alterations are close to impossible.

During my career, I’ve been the guy who has turned F’up into a feature and generally been sent in to fix the mistakes of competitors and other project managers who have screw things up.

So, what am I trying to say?

From the outside looking in, the press has managed to highlight, based on information from people with an agenda to derail Newcastle United.

The ‘insider information’ Ornstein, Edwards et al, the ‘usual suspects’ have been spoon fed comes from the mouths of people close to Chelsea, Liverpool & Man U. What a surprise the press have had a field day with the speculation around Isak & Gordon. They tried and failed to do so with Bruno.

What has the club actually done?

Regardless of the figure required to achieve to comply with PSR the board have assessed the situation at hand, more than a month ago. Mitchell was part of the process reported when the midget went on gardening leave some 10 weeks ago. Very calmly they went about their business knowing they held all the cards and wouldn’t be bullied into making any rash decisions or giving away any advantages to Manchester United.

In reality, which of the two clubs Newcastle and Manchester is currently in a more stable, well organised and well-run state?

It’s Newcastle United obviously. Not even a contest. Of course, they have a huge advantage, they are freight train of momentum that began to slow down with the Glazers and really lost momentum since Fergi stepped down as manager. However, the size of the organisation has allowed them to throw money at the issues they are suffering at a systemic level and paper over the cracks with outlandish spending.

We are not that vehicle. We are a very different beast. A restoration job. We’re being built from the ground up, brick by brick. In a way Fatso has left us in a very poor situation but due to his levels of neglect there is no big bloated organisation with hundreds of people and procedures in place. The board have come in with Eales and started from scratch.

Again, from the rumblings I’ve heard inside the club Eddie Howe was not aligned with Ashworth and he seemed to be the odd one out. His work with the academy aside it appears his personality didn’t fit the organisation and there was friction.

No doubt Mitchell’s experience with the RB group and his talent in high potential players at Southampton & Spurs respectively is on par if not well above that of C-Ashworth. Also, after the riggers of the recruitment process with one of the world’s top recruitment consultants the club have once again enhanced a position within the C-Suite that will benefit the club immediately and long term.

Even the hacks at ‘The Chronical’, as clueless as they are, have the good sense of calling Mitchell’s signing as a ‘statement appointment’.

When we look at the whole process over the last few weeks. Taking out all the clickbait, sensationalised, fact-less internet chatter. The facts are simple.

Newcastle United have signed a world class DoF with international pedigree, something Ashworth can not boost.
Newcastle United have broken their transfer record in sales TWICE, for a fringe squad player with, admitted, potential & a youth prospect who hasn’t kicked a ball for the club.
Newcastle United have put serious profit on the balance sheet far beyond the figure required to satisfy PSR regulations setting them up for a major summer rebuild. Allowing them to spend big in the positions we all know the squad needs to strengthen.
Newcastle United has not had any information leaks and the club has gone about its business in a quiet and dignified manner, achieving its objects in a timely fashion.

As fans we need to start getting used to things at the club being done in such a manner. We’re no longer the basket case of a club we were during the Sheppard and Hall days. We’re no longer the laughingstock of the Ashley era. We are perfectly on track to achieving the ambitions of our owners and fans to become a consistent establish Premier League contender & a team that will compete for the Elite trophies in Europe.

Bravo the board, Howay the Toon!

Precisely we're in great shape. Botman & Willock looking good for early returns to fitness.

3 - 4 (which on past windows performance is the norm) signings to those key areas the club are targeting and we're going to be a frightening proposition for everyone in the league next season!

    Howay the Mitchell! haha
