And so the unfolding train wreck that is US politics... continues to unfold.

This event is definitely weird and our present knowledge of it doesn't add up for me - but I can't see how it would be staged. The risk would be enormous.

The idea that Biden ordered it is even more crazy. The kind of people Biden could direct to take that shot could have made it from much further out and would absolutely not have missed. Oddly enough a recent US supreme court decision means Biden could have ordered it and would face no (legal) consequences for doing so. Not so much the shooter...

Which brings me to... killing Trump won't solve the underlying issues the US has. Maybe it puts off the collapse for another election cycle, but you still have dictatorship effectively legalised by the supreme court and the voter sentiment that burning it all down isn't (much) worse than letting the whole thing continue as it is.

The world over we have working class people's real incomes in decline and they have been for a very long time. People are sick of it and they're sick of being lied to about it. So they're voting for all kinds of "burn it all down" candidates and that isn't going to stop until someone burns it all down or the "poor get poorer" routine magically stops.

We live in interesting times, unfortunately for us.

Shootings in America are the norm, should we be surprised or even care

The result of a democratic election would have been overturned and a vice president hanged if the man who was shot at yesterday had had his way. So let’s get off our high horses eh?

Other than Putin there’s not a person alive who the world would be better off without than Trump so I can’t say I would have shed too many tears if yesterday’s worst ever assassination attempt had succeeded, but Jesus wept the phrase ‘you reap what you sow’ has never been more apt.

Surprised - no, care - yes, what happens over there tends to filter over to here eventually....

Well not really, we don’t tend to have shootings over here because of gun laws that Trump and his supporters are so vehemently against.

Interesting. That's probably as close as a 'tolerant progressive' comes to dropping their mask and revealing what they really want to happen to people they don't like. Maybe you and Trump have more in common than you realise?

I've not seen those are the words he used, but these come close:

“We cannot allow this to be happening,” Biden said. “The idea that there’s violence in America like this is just unheard of."

Both Biden and Trump have used pretty alarming language in their campaigns.

Little physical damage to Trump but a great PR coup for his campaign. Can’t believe someone would try to stop/interfere with the democratic process by violence.

The three " gentlemen " referred to in these posts may well be considered to be undesirable to many.
With regards to inflammatory political comments , this is not only restricted to the USA but has also been prevalent in this country too.
Months before his assassination in 1963, JFK was warning about sinister " forces " in the background seeking to change society.
The world is changing rapidly and dangerously these days and those making these life changing decisions are operating in the background and not in the political foreground.
We now have " experts " too, in the Met Office talking about geo engineering to remove naturally occurring CO 2 and solar shields to reflect rays back towards the sun.
In the words of the spokesman, in order to create a volcanic emissions effect.
Just think what this could likely do to agriculture , plant life and temperatures.
A stark scenario of possible starvation or a man made nuclear winter scenario.
Be very careful what you wish for , the possible consequences are frightening.
